Hello everyone, I have quite the perplexing PC issue that I am literally at my wits end of both physically and financially and I'm in a desperate last ditch attempt and finding some answers hopefully.
As mentioned in the title, the issue regards my audio and it's relation to my USB ports. When the system detects audio, there is no issue. When there is no system audio detected however, within 10 to 20 seconds of no audio, my USB port with the connected device shuts off and I lose power to my external audio interface, causing my sound system to bang very loudly (which has now blown my £4,000 speakers). This happens to any audio interface connected to the system I have tested (I've tested 4 different brands, 2 were USB powered, 2 were mains powered), and all have the same problem of losing connection to the computer without any system audio present. This issue has been present ever since I build the computer and have just about everything I can think of and everything the internet has recommended me thusfar to find a solution and I'll do my best to list everything below.
The problem however, is not just audio. The USB ports are absolutely the issue and not the devices themselves as I have more USB issues unresolved also. Windows randomly makes the USB Device dismount sound in which USBLogView never detects anything dropping out (this is also the case with the audio interface losing power with no system audio present). When the sound occurs, all the USB gen3 ports on the motherboard lose power and reset themselves (I also ensure the audio interface is connected to a USB type A port to prevent it losing power randomly, which is effective. It only ever happens to that device and USB port when there's no system audio).
These issues are not new arrivals, they have been ongoing issues for 5 years at this stage and I've never found anything that even remotely makes a difference.
List of things done to try and fix:
- Dismantle and rebuild the system
- Have the system rebuilt by a professional system builder
- Had all individual components tested for faults (none found)
- Reinstalled Windows 10
- Upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11
- Ensured in Windows that USB ports cannot be put into sleep state when no activity detected
- Ran USBLogView for 7 days continuous (nothing logged whatsoever)
- Looked through the Event Viewer to see if anything stands out (I'll be honest here, I have no real idea what to look for in there but nothing stood out to my limited understanding)
- Ensured all drivers are up to date for all devices
- Ran the Chris Titus integrity checkers on Windows Powershell (no issues found)
- Bought a powered USB hub to connect my audio interface to (the loud bang still happens as the interface shuts off completely when no sound is detected, lights go off etc)
- Disabled Windows selective suspend in my Power Plan options
There are more things I have done but I've been battling this for so long I can't remember everthing off hand.
I also cannot seem to find anyone with the same issues level of severity as I have. The closest case I have ever found I will link below as I have tried absolutely everything in that thread also.
