Question No compromises ITX case, any Fractal Core 500 specialists here?

Hi,

I'm planning on a no compromises ITX build and therefore looking for the perfect case. So far the Core 500 seems to be the way to go, but I really really want to use the Seasonic Prime Titanium 650W (because "no compromises", you know^^), which could be a little problematic with this case. It says the Core 500 supports 160mm PSUs with an 170mm without cable management. Now the Prime Titanium is 170mm and does have cable management, so in my understanding this would not fit.

My first questions would go to any Core 500 specialists here: Do you think, this could be possible somehow? I've seen that the mounting bracket for the PSU is some centimetres off the side of the case. Maybe I could mod the case there and move the bracket a bit, so that I would gain some 1 to 1.5 cm on the other side which should provide the extra clearance? I also thought about getting some Cablemod cables or maybe better just sleeve the 24 pin by myself to make it more flat and flexible so it would eventually fit without modding the bracket. Or maybe even doing both. I would appreciate any advises there, maybe even someone here did manage to put a Prime Titanium in this case or at least a 160mm modular one like the RMx or Straight Power and could share his experience?

If you say that there is now way I could fit it in there without risking to bend the GPU too much or straight up failing to fit it in, my second question is: Is there any ITX case out there, which could do everything I want to do?

It has to support:

  • 170mm modular ATX PSUs (that one should be clear^^)
  • 160mm CPU coolers; the Noctua NH-U12A to be exact
  • 300mm GPUs; my 1080 Ti FTW3 is dual slot, so no problem there. This is the only part from my current build that I will carry over.

The Core 500 ist just under 20 litres, so any case you recommend should not be above 25 litres at best. The rest should be irrelevant.

I've already looked up for cases with these criteria, but I havn't found anything yet. Maybe someone knows the one perfect option, that I've missed out.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Love those ITX builds.

The Seasonic focus series units are 140mm long and will have no problem fitting.
This 650w platinum unit for example:

What will be your processor?
If you need it, a Noctua NH-D15s will fit in 160mm.

If I see any problem, it is with getting sufficient fresh air into your case to cool your parts.
Normally, front intake is the way to go.
But your front has no intakes.
I think I would install a couple of noctua 140mm fans in the top exhausting hot air.
You can buy them in RPM speeds up to 3000rpm.
The other openings is where the fresh air intake will come from.

I know the Focus (and also the small Prime Gold/Platinum, they are 140mm too), but the point of my whole of my question was, if I could anyhow fit the 170mm Titanium into the case and nothing else. I could go with a 650W Prime Platinum and would have plenty of clearance, but I really want the Titanium model.

I do not think so.
Here is a review of the case which included a 160mm PSU.
I doubt a 170mm psu with modular cables would work.
A modular cable needs more room than a fixed cable.
Possibly you could get a some custom designed cables made with sharp 90 degree bends.

I do not understand your desire for titanium efficiency unless you already own the psu.
The difference from platinum is a nit.

What is the main reason for a ITX build?
Do you have limited space or perhaps portability for lan parties?

I use a lian li PC-Q08. The drive bays are removable so a long PSU would fit as will a long graphics card.
The main problem for you is the limited cooler height.
If you need much better than stock cooling you would need to fit a 120mm aio cooler.

It's not about the efficiency itself, it's all about the desire to have the pretty much best PSU with the best efficiency out there. I know that the minimal better efficiency won't save me anything at all.

The reason for ITX is portability between my main and second home.

You forgot to link the review of the Core 500 you were takling about.

No compromise ITX? U purposely going to a smallish box, u already compromised. :)

Well of course no compromises except this one. :)

Itx-builds are all about the smart compromises. Thats the challenge. Get yourself a NCase M1, a good sfx psu and a Nzxt x52 kraken and off you go.

Why would you build an itx system to then bloat it up just for an Atx psu nobody needs?
