Noob Question: Difference between P965 & 975X Chipsets

Heard somewhere that the P965 is good for E6600 & E6700 and the 975X is good for the E6300 & E6400 or was it the other way around?

Any links that can describe or show me (like benchmarks) the difference between these two chipsets will be appreciated. 😀

Why? because an E6300 or E6400 paired with a P965 is good for a normal budget. People who have a little more money to spend goes for the E6600 or E6700 and the 975x which they probably get to overclock and this is also for people who want 100% system estability.

So far thats what I heard and have in mind, but both chipsets and the four cpu's are good in any situation, trust me 😉

The 975 is an older chipset with support for 4 Sata ports and though I don't remember the # less usb's. The 965 supports 6 Sata Ports and 10 Usb ports.

Intel markets the 975 to be the performance chipset and the 965 to be the mainstream but from the performance benchmarks I have seen they should be reversing this.

Here is the latest toms article on the matter.
It is for the 965, 975 and 680i chipsets but will give you a good run down of their capabilities.
You can find more reviews of the various chipsets in the motherboard section of toms hardware.

Here is how I would brake it down for you.

If you want the best overclocks and SLI, go with a 680i based system like the Asus Striker Extream.

If you want a verry good overclocking board with slower crossfire support go with a 965 based system like the Asus P5b Delux.

If you want a decent overclocker with better crossfire support go with a 975 based system.

My personal recomendation would be the Asus P5B Delux with any of the C2D lineup.
I am assuming that you are planing on overclocking your cpu so get a good cooler when you order your system.

If you want to overclock a 965 board get the Asus Commando. Its just now coming to market. I ordered mine from ewiz.com

I would say this is the latest 965 board from ASUS and I would say this will be a MONSTER in the overclocking section so good luck brother! 😀

Thank you for answering my question...that commando looks too pricey for me. I think I'm gonna go with the Asus P5B Deluxe or P5B-E along with my E4300 😀
