Hello everyone,

I just had a new 20" samsung 2043SWXSPlus. It's a secondary screen to my notebook. It's connected with a DVI connector. It's got 1600 x 900 resolution with 60 Hz refresh rate.

I use free version of display fusion v3.0.6 and oscar's MM Taskbar Free 2.1.

My graphic card is a good ol' ATi Radeon x1700 with 256MB dedicated video memory.

My notebook is an asus F3JP.

Problem with this system is, when I do some heavy working with it, the primary screen on the notebook would fail and the primary screen would show a lot of white lines, the background color turns black and everything just freezes. (The secondary screen stays fine but everything is still frozen).

Any one had any idea what's going on?

Thanks for the reply, I'll try to do what you suggested. 🙂

Update:

I tried to unplug the secondary screen just now and seems like the error isn't happening anymore as I can even complete a 3DMark06 run.

When the secondary monitor was still attached, I tried to run 3DMark06 twice but I always got the error (white lines all over the screen, background becomes black, everything freezes) and couldn't finish running 3DMark06 (which stresses out the graphic card? or also stresses out the CPU as well?).

Anyone thinks that this problem is caused by my graphic card/cpu?

Or could it be that my new monitor is causing this (the monitor is spoiling the graphic card/cpu)?

@festerovic
I tried that and the error still happened. Thanks for the suggestion anyway 🙂

Update:
I tried to make my secondary screen as my primary screen and I 'kill' my notebook's default LCD, so right now I'm only using one monitor (the samsung one) as my screen.

This surprisingly seems to work well. I can complete a run of 3DMark06 and I don't see the usual 'glitch' that I usually see before I made my samsung as my one and only screen.

I guess this would mean that ATi Radeon x1700 doesn't really support dual screen, well, in my case, at least.

Update:
I just made my notebook's LCD as my secondary screen and ran a 3DMark06 successfully without error.

It's kinda confusing.

Seems like there is something wrong specifically when the samsung is used as secondary and the notebook's LCD is used as primary while if the samsung is used as primary and the notebook's LCD is used as secondary things seem to go right.

Update:
Holy !@#$.. just now I left the notebook for some dinner and when I'm back, my secondary screen (which is my notebook's LCD) has gone crazy again.

Luckily it seems things are different this time around. Nothing is frozen. The primary screen (which is the samsung one) stays fine.

To me, it seems like my ATi Radeon x1700 has gone bust indeed. Sigh.

It has that look. But I would still put some hope in the fact that it may be software related. Try different drivers (older or newer) and try and repeat the same thing. Which I guess is: run 3dmark, then idle for x amount of time, right?

Curiously, do you have any under/overclock profiles going on the card?

Hmm, that's going to take too much time which I don't have at the moment. Maybe later I'll try but for now, I'll just be done with using my samsung as the one and only monitor and 'kill' the notebook's LCD.

I've never got the error with this set up. Things seem to be going fine. Hope it stays like this. 🙂

And no, my card's all factory default.
