i was trying to install XP Pro SP2 onto my Dell Inspiron laptop.

i got to the part where it was copying files.
at 60% it kept telling me it couldn't read files and if i wanted to skip or retry.
at first i tried retry, but it didn't work.
so i skipped it, but then it happened with the next file.
and the next. i got to 80% by skipping files and i figured 20% of missing files isn't a good thing.
so i decided to quit and try all over again.

well when i restarted, i get the NTDLR error.

i read other posts about fdisk and deleting the partition (which by the way there's 2 partitions on the HDD)
but they say to delete all the partitions, but i don't wanna lose all the data on the 2nd partition.

if that's the only way to fix it tho, i guess i'll have to do it.

so if it is, how do i make a bootable CD and where do i get the files?

i have both, and whenever i try to boot from CD, it gives me the error.

i can't boot the HDD, because it already formatted it, and screwed up half way thru the copying process

Either the drive or the disc is bad. Try cleaning the disc with a soft cloth and a little water. Then use some compressed air to blow out the optical drive. Make sure the optical drive is connected securely.
