nvidia said the 1070 gets released on june 10th and will be stronger thana titan x. so it should crush the current 970 for the most part. won't know real world numbers until then but for now sounds like a strong bang for the buck at the $380 price they quoted.

no need to read the whole thread (it's getting long and will get longer) only need to watch the first few posts. it's updated regularly. if something is posted in the responses that is important, i update it to the op. everything we know so far plus some rumors are posted there and once we get some specific models to talk about they will be added to the follow up posts for each series to include benchmarks, reviews, links, power needs and whatever else seems important to the card.

oh yah lots of holes to fill in but for the first numbers, it is pretty interesting. we know driver updates will improve this over time as it always does but just to see an fps number already seems like a bit of a NDA no no

I don't know of any specific "raw computing power" GPU benchmarks, but that's really all we should be looking for at this point.
And those might still be affected by drivers as well.

The founder edition(+$100 more) is the reference cooler. Not sure if it worth that.

Unless by 'stronger than a Titan X' Nvidia was really referring to VR and other features. It will be interesting to see real world gaming numbers for 1070 against Titan X for sure. :)

yup. a few benchmarks seem to be showing up for the 1080 on AoS game as rgd showed. i added another link to the op as well with a bunch more settings tested. so far looks like a bit stronger than a fury x for the 1080 in that game.

also considering the news that the founders edition is actually the only one being released, that other price at $100 less seems a bit misleading if we don't actually get a card at that price. 3rd party cards would cost more if that is their price buy from nvidia. feel a bit let down with that piece of news.

i agree but nvidia was quick to point out that the new cards support async compute so even early on it is a fair benchmark to see if they perform better than maxwell on AoS, other than driver optimizations.

i know it's early but with so little to go on, we got to over analyze each precious little morsel until the next piece of the puzzle show up. what else am i supposed to do with my day?

So are youtubers like ltt, jayz, awesome sauce ect going to get review samples before the release date so we can see some concrete benchmarks or are we going to have to wait until after release for their info? (excuse my stupid question)

NDA lifts May the 17th. I have no idea if Nvidia ships review samples to 'youtubers'. Real tech sites will post full reviews then though.

yah rumor is may 17th for when they can go live. reviewers already have cards in hand and are waiting to be able to say anything.

as for who got cards, that is anyone's guess. i'm assuming people who are used to getting cards have got them and people used to being left out wish they got one. also noted that it was said that 2 cards were handed out so we should see sli numbers as well. as for 3rd party non reference cards, no info about them or when we should see them. believe that only reference cards will be available at the 27th release date.

Thanks, i was just curious as i plan on trying to grab a card on release, but i'd like to see some benchmarks before i decide 1080 or 1070. Should serve as a nice upgrade to my current setup.

Every single instance of “Founder's Edition” can be replaced with the word “Reference,” using previous-gen nomenclature. There is not one difference in its market positioning. They are synonymous. NVidia has replaced its “Reference” name with “Founder's Edition.”

There are not two GTX 1080 models made by nVidia. Only the “Founder's Edition” exists; there is not a cheaper card made by nVidia than the $700 Founder's Edition, which ships first.

Just to be clear: nVidia is making one official GTX 1080 and one official GTX 1070 model.

The “Founder's Edition” is not specially binned.

The “Founder's Edition” is not pre-overclocked.

The “Founder's Edition” uses the new industrial design and cooler from nVidia. Historically, this is what we would call the “reference cooler.” The cooler is more-or-less identical to the previous reference models. It's got vapor chamber cooling, a VRM blower fan, and a large alloy heatsink under the shroud. There is a backplate on the GTX 1080 Founder's Edition.

This card is not "limited edition," despite its name that would indicate as much, and will run production through the life of the GTX 1080 product line.

i'll leave these here:

"The entries include two resultions, 2560×1440 and 1920×1080, both of these ran at the “Crazy” graphics preset. The GTX 1080 was 13% faster than the GTX 980 Ti and 11% faster than the R9 Fury X at 1920×1080. At 2560×1440 and the same preset the GTX 1080 was 9% faster than the GTX 980 Ti and 11% faster than the R9 Fury X."

I wonder what drivers they were using for the 1080. 9 - 11% faster than Furyx/980 ti at 1080p/1440p isnt ground breaking, especially for someone like me who's looking for 4k gaming.

is it safe to assume that all the benchmarks released between now, and may 17th, or a few days after should be taken with a grain of salt because the current geforce driver available might not be optimised for the 1080? or support all the new features? also. how far away might we be from the release of the 1080ti? i am currently sporting a 670 and it sucks. my rift might not arrive for another two months.. would you wait for something or are we along way off from more card releases?
