Not really. As Pascal 2.0 should be coming pretty soon. Typically, one architecture stays for two generations until a new architecture comes in.

we might see some glimpse of Volta in main GTC event this year (will be held sometime next month) but actually consumer product will only coming out in 2018 time frame.

i don't think there will be Pascal 2.0. GTX1080ti probably will be nvidia last gaming card this generation until Volta arrive sometime next year.

I was saying earlier that the 1080 Ti matches and sometimes beats the $1200 Titan X (Pascal). (This card was nicknamed Titan XP, so we could differentiate it from Titan X Maxwell.

However Nvidia have released another newer Titan X (Pascal) , which they are calling Titan XP. It will have about 250 more shader cores than the 1080 Ti, and still cost about $1200.

What a rip off, and how confusing is that?

I would be spitting feathers now, if I had bought the original Titan X (Pascal).

Or at least sell them to current titan X Pascal owners at a 50% price reduction of the new one. That way at least if they sell their old XPs for $700, they can get a new one for free basically.

But Nvidia won't do that, but hey, this is a state of capitalism. So there's nothing wrong with nvidia doing what their doing.

Plus, the good news is that if you overclock a titan XP, it still can make up the lost ground.

What's funny though is that nobody complained when the Titan Black came out. It's the exact same way here. The original Titan came out for +$1000, then the Titan Black came out with a fully enabled Kepler GK102 core.

Single slot 1070 for any of you low profile enthusiasts out there, and further answers the questions of why are high end workstation cards single slot but not high end gpus? http://www.pcgamer.com/galax-built-the-worlds-only-single-slot-geforce-gtx-1070/

Well it isn't low-profile, but single slot is cool. Rather it be something like a 1050 or 1050ti since a 1070 is likely to scream under load.Would be nice if some of the ELSA cards were sold in the US.

I kind of want to re-build my HTPC into a sleeker case.

Well, it's thin profile, which depending on the case design, may be "low profile." cause there are a few HTPC cases with only 1 PCI slot.

I got some interesting information that is at the level of "hallway rumor", lol.

Volta will release in ~Q2 2018 (give or take 1Q) and it will push nVLink in higher end models sporting 3 versions of it for mobile and workstations. That last bit of information is very interesting on its own right. I wonder if all that I heard is actually true, lol.

Other bits are around efficiency and process node, but they are less relevant I guess.

Cheers! 😛

after getting the GTX 1070 bug, i decided to go for the EVGA Founders Edition 1080 instead. my question is how do i set my gpu to run at optimum setting?

I am old enough to remember way back when I was an early adopter of the gtx 280 and I actually got a rebate check for $175 or something like that in the mail from Nvidia because costs of the card dropped so dramatically so quickly after release. Can't remember if that was because of a red team card or what, but I have to think so. There's always hoping. :)

well that is because of HD4800 pricing. but it is not easy for AMD to repeat such move right now. not when we consider how AMD financial situation right now compared to a decade ago. also cost wise Vega most likely end up being more expensive than nvidia GTX1080ti to produce because of those HBM2. and for nvidia part they have always been cautious against AMD since that HD4800 moment. instead on the defensive side they were the one that attacking even when they have the lead. but they do it in a way that they can still get massive profit.

I don't know what you mean by AMD's financial position. Do you mean they had more money back then?

I am hoping that their new Ryzen CPUs will make a good return. Thus hitting Intel who are too expensive now generally. Thus helping AMD along, and giving them money to produce some competing GPUs. Nividia have it all their own way right now and that's another reason why they are charging so much. I think they rule the high end GPU, meaning AMD have nothing in the top four GPUs. (Might be wrong there.)
