microcenter has already been discounting some 970/80/80ti models. i would say it almost has to go down some if the 1070 performs like we think it will. but they never go as low as people hope they will. there will still be a market for them for various reasons which will keep the price up. right at the start when folks are trying to upgrade and selling a ton of them, they surely will drop in price for used ones.

once this flurry ends, prices will stabilize and even go back up some as stocks of new cards go down.

only if your buying used

How about from Geforce.com:
GeForce GTX 10-series graphics cards are powered by Pascal to deliver up to 3x the performance of previous-generation graphics cards, plus innovative new gaming technologies and breakthrough VR experiences.

I mean it's not a huge leap of faith to think they may, yes even in non-VR gaming situations, hit 2x the performance.

leap of faith is one thing but i'm not sure even a ton of faith is gonna give 2x 970 performance. it's an awesome dream i'd love to be wrong about but i just don't see it happening. we'll know more in a couple days when we see some 1080 benchmarks. until then, i'm gonna stay away from making such assumptions. if the 1080 is triple the 970 in performance, then perhaps i can let myself believe the 1070 will be all people are praying it will be. :)

Do you mean 2x the performance of the 970 or 970 in a sli config?

i'm referring to those who are saying that a 1070 will be double a single 970 in performance. too far fetched for me. i'm expecting between a 980 and 980ti for the 1070's performance. still great for the price it will be for sure.

we should only see reference cards on the 27th. i would expect a good 2 weeks before we see the custom cards hitting the shelves. it's always this way with nvidia reference cards being the first out followed by the custom cards later on. i'd wait to see what those cards look and perform like before buying if you are interested in the 1080. the Founder's Edition (reference card) looks pretty nice but may not be for everybody. the custom cards should look more like we are used to seeing.

when i say double the performance of a 970 that is sli. i owned 2 x 970s in sli and sold them because a single titanx/980 ti > 2x 970's

During the CEO's 1080/1070 'overview' towards the end (1hr 11mins in) he said the 1080 was twice the perfomrance of the Titan X. This figure clearly relates to his previous VR Slides. He then goes on to introduce the 1070... he said verbatim "6.5 GFLOPS, 8 GB G5 memory, Faster than a Titan X Faster than a titan X" - Yes he said it twice.

i hope the 1070 can match a titan x because thats not far off 1080 performance surely... and with o/c headroom you might be able to o/c a 1070 to a stoc 1080 - wishful thinking perhaps but it may be possible.

So on the 17th we will see all the review videos pop up? if so I really hope there is promise in a aircooled version hitting decent fps in 4k ultra 😛

yup on the 17th you should see reviews benchmarks and videos all over the place. will collect as many as is feasible to link here but there is now way i'm gonna seek out and link every last review and video out there :) i do have a family and life outside the forum, no really i swear i do......

Hey guys what do you think these cards will cost in Europe? I expect them to cost in euros as they cost in dollars in US, 599e and 379e respectively?

1 USD = 0.884445 EUR
1 EUR = 1.13065 USD

thats current conversion, now just going off that slightly cheaper maybe? not sure how things are with vendors over there

USD conversion don't mean shi* when it comes to hardware. in the UK we always lose out. I expect £575 for the 1080 and £350 for the 1070.

Yeah prices are always lower here in the US for just about any hardware. Mostly due to your taxes being higher I believe. Sheer quantity of units sold matters as well as far as what the base cost is to retailers.

well you can sort of guess

the 980 ti amp! costs ~$529 in the us and £539.99 n the uk

if we went with just currency exchange rates then the 980 ti amp! should cost £369.38 in the uk, 46% premium

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB WINDFORCE 3X is $594.99 in the us, in the uk it costs £518.80.

If we went with currency exchange one again then it should cost £414.68, 25% premium

so just with this you can expect a 25% to 46% premium

$599.99 us, would then fall in between £749.98 to £875.98 in the uk

€951.25 to €1111.06

XD would be better to use more examples but this is just for funsies

Question from Shahan16 : "you think gtx 1080 will come bundled with a game?"

for example when i bought my gtx 970 it came with batman arkham knight, u think 1080 will also be bundled once companys such as MSI / EVGA get there hands on it

Probably, probably not. If your already paying $600 for a graphics card, getting a free game with it isn't exactly a great deal anyways.
