Yeah, I know - I was just kind of kidding about the channel - I know getting over a 100k subs for a tech channel is really hard - that's why there's only like five big channels and plethora of ones with about 1k subs. I just kind of can't get over the fact what a sweet deal is being a big tech youtuber - you get revenue from advertisement from youtube AND sponsors (seriously, why do I have to watch two! ads in one! short video - not always but sometimes it happens) and you get all kinds of free stuff and just thinking of HOW little use these channels are just blows my mind. It'd be much simpler to get over it if these channels didn't get in my face all the time - YT's recommendation system is a MESS and I really hate it - I wish there was an option "never see that channel ever again".
And correct me if I'm wrong - you obviously know more about what I'm about to say but sponsors, including AMD or Nvidia don't give rat's ass whether you're really tech savvy and know what you're talking about - if you have more than 500k subs and you never badmouth their company you'll get free stuff for reviews or even a sponsor deal so - even if you are a total ass clown like Plier or BlondiePie.

It's feature only applies for pascal architecture due to hardware limitations, but they will "try" to push it on older cards that can handle it. (expect it to be unsupported, and if it does end up happening it will be a long time from now)

I suppose we will know after computex but there are already talks about partners will roll out theirs as soon as FE card start selling. Though if you want AIB oberclocked model we might not going to see them until july time frame. It seems nvidia impose somekind of hard limit to FE edition which impacting Overclocking as seen by reviewer. They say 1080 end up using more power than 980 but if we look at TPU result 980 and 1080 consume about the same power under similar situation. Nvidia rated 980 at 165w and 1080 at 180w but during typical gaming scenario 980 consume around 156w while 1080 consume around 166w. Peak power consumption for 980 was 190w while 1080 peak at 186w (furmark).

lol. no dude, you'll be fine. Hell I'd go as far to say you'd be fine with a 3rd gen i7

Hi Guys!

Currently running on the older GTX 770 here, I saved up quite an amount of cash for a video card upgrade and I'm really excited for the pascal video cards, my question is would the 1070 be worth the upgrade or should I save a bit more to get the 1080?

Thanks Guys!
Btw I only game on FHD, not really planning to jump in on 4k just yet

We will see as soon as 1070 benchmarks become available. But I am fairly confident that 1080 is a HUGE overkill for 1080p. Even the 1070 might be too much for most cases.

Thanks @TehPenguin, I'll just purchase the 1070 when it becomes available, either way its a big performance boost from the 770, so excited loool

All we know is that it will exist, as its available as a Tesla P100. I guess at least a few months though.

im so glad my 980Ti isnt that bad, would be damn messed up iff my 980Ti bought 2 months ago would be double slower than the 1080

MERGED QUESTION
Question from pup_seba : "gtx10xx release dates"

saw that as well. the founders edition showed that thermal and power limits pretty much capped the 1080 at that 2-2.1 ghz range for an oc that we have seen on any number of reviews. the custom ones with better cooling should easily beat this number with an extra power connector. that card ran VERY COOL with that and the other custom cooler review i posted yesterday. that would leave plenty of thermal headroom for some serious overclocking if the card can get enough power to do it. i do expect some great things from the custom ones when they finally show up.

it's a good question and we don't really have that answer yet. expecting a couple weeks at least after launch and then they will trickle in over time. as we have seen before, the other brands won't release them all at once. so we will see multiple cards from each vendor staggered over time as well.

In a way I agree with you, but I think it's great channels like those big popular 100K+ subscribers exists. If those youtubers don't make that content then who will? And the information they provides is still useful to a lot of people, that's why they get a lot of views. Maybe you want a tech channel that goes much deeper than those popular ones and has less 'cool personality', but would enough people watch such a channel to merit its existence? Would someone be able to make a living running a channel like that? I hope so, but I'm not sure. You're welcome to try, but I have my doubts it will draw the masses.

I do agree that a lot of tech channels can be a pain to watch due presenters often acting a certain 'cool' way which they probably thinks (and maybe rightly so) is what's needed to attract the masses. I think maybe what it comes down to is youtubers being a phenomenon similar to bloggers where people are following a particular person rather than simply following for the content. So then they watch that individual's channel not only for the info provided, but because they wanna know what he thinks of the GTX 1080.

So, I know I've asked this question before, but when can we realistically expect the ASUS STRIX versions of 1080 and 1070 to hit the shelves? 😀

I'd think within a few days of release since the founders edition is going to be overpriced. But I'd bet some will be released within the 1st week for sure and more being released on week 2.
