They just spent $600 for a vr headset, what makes you think they have the money for a new gpu?

😛

Out of curiosity were your SC's the reference cooler design? My first 970 was a reference cooler SC Gaming (model 04G-P4-1972-KR). I wound up selling it and getting two ACX 2.0+ SSC variants for SLI (model ends in 3975) as the regular SC and ACX SSC would not SLI (EVGA issue). That SSC GPU in solo ran nearly 10C cooler under load with the same Afterburner fan profile than the reference cooler SC.

It was something like 62C vs. 70C. Granted the SSC ACX 2.0+ had a new heat pipe design over the older 970 ACX 1.0 cards which also ran cooler than the reference blower cooler, but it was still a huge difference.

I had 2 of the SC ACX 2.0 970s. They were not the updated ACX 2.0+ model that fixed the heat pipe design.

Totally agree that Gigabyte are efficient at cooling. I had a Gigabyte ina case with practically no case fans and the card only went to about 71'C. When I put it in a proper case it was running at low 60-ish'C.

(Well done getting a 1070.)

Shouldn't the logic be the other way around?

*Because* they had 600 to spend on a VR HMD, they also should have the money for a 1080?

Otherwise, why you you even go that high in price? 4K gaming?

Cheers!

If these numbers are accurate the 1060 is quite a bit better than the RX 480. If the 1060 is even better in Ashes of the Singularity there won't be many possible situations where the RX 480 can beat it. I'll be skeptical of those numbers until we see actual review benchmarks though.

The AoS numbers put the 1060 in a very good position to justify the extra $50. Down the road, looks like the 1060 is going to age well in line with the 480.

We now need some DOOM numbers to be mixed in and call it a day.

All the other games displayed there are also a good show for it. 20% above the 480 for anything not using ASync Queue is good for all current and legacy stuff. Plus, partners have been displaying decent offerings in terms of cooling, although if the 120W might make them overkill compared to the reference one.

In any case, I just hope this card is actually available, haha.

Cheers!

Just had a closer look at those benchmarks and noticed 1st the numbers they get for the RX 480 & GTX 960 look very low compared to reviews on other sites ie tomb raider 1080 Anandtech 480 review 480 gets 65/70 4gb/8gb and the 960 37.5 Nvidia get 480 41 and 960 32.3 so not only are Nvidia fps very low for both cards but the % difference is way off to. They must be using some more extreme settings somehow but it shows they aren't to be relied upon. Though we knew that anyway.

looking at all the press releases, we can expect similar line-ups for 1060 cards as we see for the others. would expect almost the same models from each vendor with a few mini's thrown in for good measure, like the zotac mini and probably an msi one.

for a good laugh, take a look at the nvidia "reviewer's guide" for the 1060 http://videocardz.com/62138/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-reviewers-guide-leaked i wonder if anyone actually follows this at all.

Won't the 1060 use less power than the 480 as well? I think the performance and efficiency gain is worth paying the £50 more, for the 1060 that someone above mentioned.

Thanks for the detailed information!
I s#%ked! 🙁

they do offer paypal, which is buyer protected.. however im waiting on the asus line.. it should play nice hopefully with my z170a annd monitor

Same here. Or, why doesn't Nvidia just call the 6GB model a gtx 1060 Ti?

However, it is cool to see changes like this. It makes me wonder what Nvidia has up their sleeve for the GTX 1050.

i wish i knew what the deal is over at MSI. they are up to 12 different models each for the 1070 and 1080 cards. and i'm sure more will come over time. it's just getting silly. every time i visit MSI's site, i find another card they have released. EVGA can get just as bad over time, but good Lord MSI seems to have gone off the deep end pretty early in the release cycle!!

Are there even any significant differences between them? Besides the pre-oc.
