Thanks both of you for the help. With all this in mind, by when will the second round of 1080's be out and overall what would be the recommended 1080 GPU from you guys based on current data? Some of the benchmarks I've seen from Game-Debate have the ASUS ROG Strix OC ahead of the pack ever so slightly and the speeds I'm seeing for Galax, Gigabyte, Gainward, and Zotac are also incredibly good, but I don't know enough about all of the technical details to make a fully educated decision. Like I said, I don't want to buy a card and then see that I could have bought a better even if slightly so one for the same orice or only $10-20 more.
the seahawk x review from guru 3d sums things up pretty well.
http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/msi-geforce-gtx-1080-sea-hawk-x-review,1.html they put in all the cards they have tested along with FE models. so little difference it's hard to call one better than the others. they added thermal and sound measurements in as well so you can see which was quieter by a bit or cooler.
unless they start using custom bios, i don't see newer 1080 cards being any better. nvidia has limited it to the point that no one can push it beyond a set limit. so short of a card redesign or custom bios that changes the limits nvidia has placed on the cards, they can't be any better.
a good safe buy would be the commonly good cards. like asus strix, gaming x, zotac amp, evga sc and the other common cards that are always good. the gainward phoenix glh (goes like hell) actually reviewed real well and if i could buy one in the US, it would be on my short list.
