See I'm a lot different. Since moving across to nvidia cards, I've gone with the top end of the 600, 700, 900 series. Now looking to the 10. Basically, I do not value the one thing that should be valued when making a purchase. Longevity lol. I suspect that after owning a 1080 for a few months I will most likely either upgrade to a 1080ti (if it releases) or at least go with sli 1080. I can almost guarantee right now that I will be selling these cards by end of 2017 and upgrading to whatever is next lol. So re sell value is of importance to me as opposed to longevity value haha.

I have a theory though in regards to how AMD have been playing and what the future holds. After the announcement that AMD got the contract to Build APU's for nintendo and especially the announcement of the xbox scoprio and 4k gaming at 60hz...I believe by 2018 things are going to look a lot different between nvidia and amd.,

market share of desktops is one thing but i would think with the ps and xbox and nintendo all using amd, they still be in decent shape. i guess there is not much profit in the console apu's for them since they are hurting so bad still. they also do a pretty good server business from what i understand.

i am not a big gamer so i don't update my gpu as much nor get the high end ones. i do fresh builds more than needed but i focus on cpu and other bells and whistles. i may actually go nuts this time with the gpu if i'm gonna go through the expense of custom watercooling. my family loves their hand me down pc's since they are rarely more than a year old. i do the same with my cell phone. i get the new iphone every year and pass on my old one to family or sell it. used market is not as good as it used to be but still decent for iphones.

Basically you have two forms of tubing. There is soft and hard.

Soft can be made out of norprene, rubber, silicone, PVC etc. Soft tubing is the absolute easiet to work with. It is quick and easy. But as you can already imagine, it is no where near as aesthetically pleasing as hard tubing. You do not have tight 90degree bends etc. Everything just curves into where it needs to go. Also, low quality soft tubing can discolor and go "cloudy" very quickly. High quality tubing will last a lot longer. Basically, soft tubing its the easy shortcut way to building a watercooling loop. Still gets the job done but you aren't going to achieve the same level of wow factor.

Hard tubing. Made of two different types of matierals. acrylic (plexi glass) and also PETG (polyethylene terephthalate). plexi glass is the most common. It will not be the same materiel your brother uses to create figurines. He'd be using actual glass. Plexi glass is a form of plastic.

This is not to say that he wouldn't be able to help you at all. He's obviously going to understand the concept in heating/cooling to get things to bend the way they want and where he wants it to bend. Although this isn't a hard concept to grasp, it can be quite tedious if you've never done it before.

Here is a custom loop made of soft tubing

ok, i've worked with plastic but on a very limited level. sounds like fun either way. i've seen the soft tubing and it's not as classy as the hard stuff. i wonder if i could actually do it with glass??? i assume it would hold up to the water temp. maybe after playing with and learning about custom loops in general i'll try out other materials since i have an expert to help me with it.

thanks for the info.

Woops sorry. I rode that train right off the track there and down the mountain saide :ange:

So what's next for 1000series. Has there been any rumors of a ti? Or do you think this ace is being kept close to nvidia's chest as we count down the days to amd vega? Assuming the 1000series is going to have to compete with vega as nvidia's volta won't release till after vega?

Also....please, if you own 2x1070 cards (preferably non FE and preferably of the same make) please please start some comprehensive benchmarking lol.

Still kinda expensive if you think the 1070 will be on par or faster. But nuts if think about it. $400 for a 980ti!
No such deals in europe, yet.

There's two 980 Ti on Amazon UK for just over £400. They were £550 a week ago.

Guru3D is doing a good job of keeping track of the new cards as they come out. I game at 1440p and this is what I gathered from their review of the ASUS ROG Strix:

Average FPS at 1440:
FE: 89.6
Gigabyte G1 Gaming: 92.8 +3.6%
MSI Gaming X: 93.2 +4%
Asus ROG Strix: 94.5 +5.5%

Those are so close it's almost within a margin of error and, to me anyway, dont really justify the higher price on the ASUS.

that's what i have noticed and what i am suggesting to the folks asking "which one is best". they all seem almost exactly the same. i'm suggesting looking at the looks of it, the value add-ons and price. performance is going to be close to identical for every card it seems. i am going to assume that the 1070 will be similar, though there is some room for high oc out of the box cards to beat other "stock" cards. but with oc, they too will all peak at the same levels.

we've gotten so used to being able to oc the heck out of cards, that some are very hesitant to believe that all these cards are near identical. it's so against all we have known from the past. glad you took notice of this trend as well and can help spread the word to those asking :)

hardware.info is another one that tests a lot of cards and keeps them all together in the graphs. helps folks see how close they really are.

Of all the cards than no-one should buy now for single card use, the 970 should be totally avoided. No-one should buy it any price. The RAM-gate issue with the 970 wrecks games. I bet it would trash Doom quite regularly.

I have no idea if RAM-gate has any impact in SLI. I guess that would be the only reason to buy a 970 if it doesn't hit RAM-gate in SLI.

i'm pretty sure looks is going to be the deciding factor for me. still working out how i want my new build to go, but the look is going to mean a lot this time since it will be a windowed case and not all closed up. so many color combo's i'm sure something will work out in the right scheme. i'm almost thinking white and black and have seen a white/black card so should be able to match mobo, cooling and the rest to that scheme.

Wow this is absolutely retarded. This is a marketing scheme as opposed to actually "running out of stock".
Teaches me for cashing in on my cards so soon. Stuck without a gaming rig till august? It's already been 3 weeks and I'm dyyyyying :'(

Okay guys I don't think I can handle waiting any longer. I'm going with open loop watercooling anyway. Will an FE card stack up? Or is the lack of a second power connection going to hurt the OC?

Over the years I've learnt that it's never a good idea to go early on new graphic card releases, especially if your current card(s) are still competent.

You see this is the problem.....winter started 3 weeks ago here in Australia :peur:
