For that kind of money they could have at least upped the memory to 4gb per card.

I remember when the first Asus Mars came out. Who actually thought the price was justified? At least they doubled the memory.

[citation][nom]unionoob[/nom]Sure, I don't think AMD is going to beat GTX 690, but I think AMD gonna earn more money with mainstream cards like 7870 and 7850 then nvidia with there highend cards, especally if there the top end card cost 1000$...And all because there like no competition to AMD with mainstream cards for now.[/citation]

Great point! When a company is more concerned about having the performance crown then the average Joe doesn't matter. If I didn't know they were gonna eventually release mainstream cards, I would say they took a page out of Apple's book. You know, "Over priced products for a small amount of clientele. Forget about those who can't afford the latest and greatest."

[citation][nom]andrey64[/nom]AMD good luck trying to beat this baby out with your 7990[/citation]
I'm not sure what AMD can do to counter this in terms of performance, but they can certainly come in at a lower price point (there's plenty of room below $1000). And of course there's availability. The gk104 is in short supply, and while the GTX680 has been available many times since launch, it's never been in stock for more than a few hours at a time. Expect GTX690 supply to be even worse.

Basically, AMD still has a competitive chance in the ultra high-end market with pricing and availability.

$1k for a dual graphics card is almost normal here going off previous dual cards on release, I would be ecstatic if it's that cheap here in Australia at launch.
More like $1200 we get ripped on both software and hardware even though our dollar is worth more than the US dollar!
Looks damn sexy with that LED lit logo, Anyone with a window case will want it.Hmmm gonna be hard for me to hold off for the GK110 now.
If it's $1k I might get it if it's over then I'll hold out for big Kepler end of 3rd quarter(hopefully it's out then).

this card looks totally as a quality product, I do not think that AMD achieve the same performance and quality. AMD will for sure use plastic with his total housing design, and obviously lower price..

What's the point of product lines that they don't actually sell it? I can go online and buy a Radeon 7000 series card right now. Can I buy a 600 series card? No!

NVidia should've stuck to a larger node instead of shrinking Kepler to 28nm then released a die-shrink for the 700 series. Everyone buys oversized PSUs anyways (not top quality, but guys I know bought 700W Thermaltakes or 1000W Kingwins), so long as it did as well as the 500 series on power usage, it would've been good enough so long as it hit store shelves.

I really do not know anything about the predecessor to this monster of a GPU. But is this the reference design coming from nvidia and would there be any need to make non reference models of this card, or is it the end be all done and there?

I was looking at three manufacturer's consisting of Asus, Gigabyte, and Evga. I was having a look at them and considered buying a card from them based on their non reference versions , features, utilities, warranty, and designs.

Now I look at this GTX 690 and want it so badly but of course atm that is way too much for a GPU, and I can understand why they priced it as such. I really wonder what the 7990 will be like, if it can even touch this gpu i'll commend AMD/ATI. This will also be a chance for price wars to occur if you really think about it, so have no worries about the gtx 690 ladies and gents. If they decide to price this at 1000 dollars then guess what... amd will undercut them and sell the 7990 for much cheaper, and they will be forced to lower the price no question.

Let the price wars begin, along with the release of the mid ranged gtx 600's series. So from what that article says... x2 (or x3-x4) non referenced 680's in sli may be better than this card? I mean if I even looked at this card let alone got a chance to put this in my pc case, i'd want a 1200 watt PSU (and modular, 80+ gold at that).

I thought i'd ditch amd for ati... but the 680's and 690 have done it. I was never a fan boy to begin with, I like amd, it is an underdog you are supposed to like the underdog. If it was not for amd intel processors would have still been at monopoly type prices, and I do not want to ever see that again.

[citation][nom]dragonsqrrl[/nom]?? Do you have any suggestions? Seems pretty good to me.[/citation]
I think amd going to come out with their adjusted better performing card for 200$ less.. that would be 799$.. xD

$799 for the 7990 would definitely make me reconsider the 690. But 7990 better performing? LOL Thats reaching......

True, but it should generally scale better in Crossfire than the two 680s do in SLi. I think what we need to ask is what would AMD do to the clocks in order to get a supposed 7990 out the door - two 7950s and not 7970s for a start, possibly?

The 680s have the edge in power consumption and even then, NVIDIA has dropped their clocks slightly.

Sweet looking card. But 4GB of ram?? Id expect more for the price. And i love for this card to have a centrifugal fan they are much better at moving air than a bladed fan.

YEY! another suspense for a card that only few will ever buy, and a card that will make you look like an idiot for the price point in about 1 and half year. Same goes for extreme CPUs.

why dropping the base core clock to fit 300w tdp when u provide 375w of power?

GTX680 is 170w tdp. It is rated 195w, but Nvidia said it is closer to 170w.
wouldnt that be nice to clock near full speed like GTX680? 375w/2 = still 187.5w.
