Thanks for that. Not much useful information in there, but... Oh man... That comments section xD

They crack me up so bad... It's the land of the trolls, haha.

Cheers!

The 950 ti should fill a gap that HTPC people will throw money at because the 950 ti is set to be a small low powered card like the 750 ti, except it will have HDMI 2.0 for easier compatibility with 4K TVs.

It is low powered but still not replacement to 750ti power consumption wise. If hwbattle leak to be believed then 950 will be rated at 90w. But it most likely going to replace 750ti price wise while both 750s got shift into sub $100

They would do a really good job for non-gaming applications, preventing graphics bottlenecks for basic system stuff at high resolutions that the iGPU wouldn't do very well. It might also support good game play for casual and indie games at 4k.

Going to 950 from 570 probably will be minor upgrade. If you can hold out then do it. Problem is we don't know when Pascal will hit. Rumor suggesting Q1 or ealry Q2. But to some (including me actually) have hard time to believe that because that would need everything to be done right from the very beginning on new node which is a very tall order for TSMC to accomplish given how they have to struggle with their 20nm process.

So are you willing to wait lets say a year for pascal? To me that's a lot of time. Just get something decent now so you can enjoy your games better in the mean time until pascal arrive. But if pascal really did arrive as the current rumor has it then you will regret the decision going for maxwell? 😛

If you're not the type that buying hardware on frequent basis i think it is better for you to buy current hardware that will satisfy your need. No need to think too much about future product. There is no guarantee Pascal will be great. AMD used to be efficiency king back in 2009/2010 but we never expected the table actually turns around in 2012 when nvidia arrive with Kepler. And there are people have been waiting Fury since nvidia coming out with their 980and 970. For some it is worth the wait and some are not.

I was planning to get a 960 4GB at first just to make things smoother, a few months ago I wanted to actually go full out and get the 980gtx or wait for the 980ti but now not so much, i think the 960 4GB will do pretty good on 1440p medium / 1080p max ish settings, atleast it will hold up until pascal will show up ?

Let's hope it works as it should straight off the bat eh?

40nm was hard lesson for nvidia. JHH mention that now they send more of their engineer to TSMC as not to repeat the same problem. probably they know much earlier that 20nm is no go for them hence they able to release maxwell in 28nm design in early 2014.

theoretically, tsmc's 16nm finfet (or ff+) won't be as bad for nvidia as 40nm turned out to be early on. mainly due to lack of stronger focus on tuning power usage. nvidia has arm socs as well as high performance gpus to manufacture. nvidia has another foundry partner in samsung.

As for gpu nvidia have no one to turn to but TSMC. The partnership with Samsung most likely for their SoC. And the talk about nvidia using Samsung fab is not new. Same rumor also surface back in 2012 because of TSMC 28nm capacity was full. Not long after that rumor TSMC make public announcement about giving some of AMD (for discrete gpu) and Qualcomm (for SoC) capacity to nvidia so nvidia can fulfill their order.

I have some doubts on their chosen 380... Why would they go for the "HTPC" version of it? It's less well cooled and they didn't even show the temp graph. I bet that card was throttling like mad. And that's not even counting the 100Mhz+ clock difference between the Asus and the Sapphire. I don't want to point it out in the article, or fanbois will cry me a river, haha.

Cheers!

The 380 is little more than a tweaked 7950 but I do agree that a better example of the card could have been used,it's interesting to see it compared to a 960 though and equally interesting to see how close they are in some titles.

Yeah, not taking any merit to the 950's showing. It's quite the interesting card, but from what I could see from the OC charts, it's basically already at it's limit at ~1200Mhz.

For the price it's quite good, indeed.

Cheers!
