Great finally found an nvidia gpu thread, so my question here i guess is whats the difference between a 980 ti g1 and an amp extreme edition, is their something special that makes the amp edition able to get a higher stock clock or is it possible with both cards and gigabyte just chooses to underclock. That said what are some clocks you guys have gotten on your respective 980 ti's or otherwise or should expect to get with a g1 980ti? Any advice is appreciated.
 
Just here to say how much I love my GTX 960 4GB. The 128 bit bus scared me but I stopped listening to the hype and just put a nice overclock on my memory and core clock, 380 offset and 155 offset respectively and I am having a nice, nice gaming experience. I do wish the R9 380 would have come out a month earlier. It would have made my choice harder.
 


Nice read. I wasn't expecting any more budget cards since the 750s already had the Maxwell architecture. Good move by Nvida though because those new R7s will be selling no doubt.
 


that GM206 chip that could not make it into GM206-300 has to go somewhere. in a sense this probably will fit GTX660 performance? probably will priced between 180-150 price range. with this nvidia probably will make official price cut to GTX750Ti since as far that i'm aware of nvidia never cut 750Ti price. at least officially. personally i'm more interested to see if nvidia will put new GPU between 960 and 970 and also true successor to GM107.

in unrelated topic i would probably rolling on the floor laughing if GP107 able to exceed 960 performance.
 


if all pascal lineup end up with HBM then there is no need to widen the bus anymore. but when nvidia make their cards they probably taken the consideration towards it's performance. for example many see that 960 128 bit bus as a negative point for the card but in reality it does not negatively impacting the card's performance at all.
 
And talking about the mid-low tier for nVidia.

Anyone here has a clear picture on performance/price ratios of each card under the GTX970? It's murky waters for me, since I lost track after the GTX680 became the GTX770 and the first Titan came around, haha.

As the 950 is not available yet there is only the 960.
 


Is the 960 a re-branded 770, a beefed up 750ti or a gimped 970?

I heard the was GM206 coming or something? Is that the 960? xD

Pretty much a 760 with a little bit better performance
 


960 is maxwell gen 2. GM206. 770 is based on GK104. it is 680 rebrand but clocked higher. 750Ti is maxwell gen 1. GM107. 970 is based on cut down GM204.
 
So i'm going to be getting an 980 ti g1 edition in 2 days, anyone have any advice on the card? It seems like it's the best non reference card on the market other than the hybrid.
 


You can have a non reference card with a reference pcb, unless having a closed loop cooler is reference, i beg to differ either way i'd rather not quarrel over semantics. That said,

know any good non reference cards as good if not better? I know about twin frozr and amp extreme edition. Know any cards that'll give incredibly good overclock?

The hybrid will probably still bring the best OC since it keeps your GPU core at about 55c. Much more thermal headroom.
 


Nah i can't fit a cloosd loop cooler in my current case without ripping the front panel off. It'd be a waste if you know of any air cooler designs that'll oc well by all means.

The cooler probably wasn't even designed for the 980 ti.

2 heat pipes don't even touch it.

Yeah but copper is a good heat conductor. Sure maybe the chip isn't necessarily touching all the pipes, but that doesn't mean it won't transfer the heat to them, heck you could even argue that the strix could conduct it better on the account of it not having a copper plate. A direct, thermal connection straight to the pipes, could provide better thermal dissipation in the long run instead of having to heat up the copper plate to heat up the pipes. Who knows, i guess i'll just wait until reviews are out of the unit?
