No luck yet

As I told before, I need my raptor to start with my OC and using this new PC, without it, I wont use it. But hey, my raptor is coming soon (very soon I promise)

Some other problems I had, My PC wouldnt install windows, it would crash, one of my ram was defective so Im with 512 right now, Im trying to get an RMA from Corsair.

Also, My Seagate is fauly, I have sent it 2 days ago to newegg to get a replacement.

Im like stuck right now...

Well, your not the only one with problems. It kept bugging me that the nVidia Monitor was showing my Cpu idle at 44*C. So I went back to bios and nope, it showed a different value, 35*C. I started to wonder if maybe the monitor program was off 10*. But even if it was, everything else was being accurately measured. I didn't like that, so I looked up a few how-to's on hsf installation and realized, that I had too much AS5 on my cpu. Maybe I thought, that is why the bios and monitor are off. So I cleaned most of it off and left a paper thin amount on it. I reapplied the hsf, pushed it down really well, and then took it off to see the results. As I had thought might be, but really hoped wasn't true, the middle of the hsf was making NO CONTACT what so ever. Only the edges are. Since I bought my hsf from CompUSA, I can't return it now. Only thing left to do is buy a brand new one. I figured I might as well go with the 9700 if I go the hsf way, although my alter ego craves for the monsoon II tec(thermo-electric-cooler). But there is also a big gap in price difference between the two. Despite being torn between two very awesome products, one thing still frightens me. What if the hsf isn't the problem? If my cpu chip is somehow bowed in the middle, there's little I can do, but apply for a replacement from tiger-direct (i think that's where I got it).

Anyway, sorry to hear of your troubles too. I'm going to go grab my dad's level and see which is the real problem. :?

Ill check that Old Computer working thread ^^ Im glad I made this the biggest Thread ever 😀!!!

Scarlet, dont tell me your 9500 has failed you! thats a great cooler! how come one day was ok and the next day booom? I need an explanation!

It's not that the 9500 just all of a sudden stopped working, it's been this way. But I figured it was just the nVidia Monitor program that was off. Now, though, I think it might actually be very close. I also noticed when I overclocked to 3.7-3.8ghz, the temp was at the 44-55+*C range. Thats about how high you can take the chip before it starts to reboot because of heat problems. So I'm thinking maybe the hsf isn't making good contact. Since I had a little too much AS5, I guess it was working a little bit. But when the temps started to rise, it was like an avalaunch. I might just go with the Monsoon II. With something like that, I could probably reach 4ghz and keep 3.6ghz very stable at all instances. I'll probably decided sometime this upcoming week. For now, I've set my bios all back to default to keep my temps in control.

Just a little update...

Newegg has sent me a new Seagate today and should be arriving thursday or friday at latest.

Yesterday I sent via USPS Priority Mail 2-3 Days my RAM to get an RMA, hopefully I will have some new RAM by Corsair on Middle Next Week.

***CONFIRMED*** Ill be getting my Raptor this weekend so it will arrive (if not the sameday) with my RMA'ed RAM and by then Ill have everything ready and Ill start OC that same day.... I PROMISE!

Not too sure what happened, but my temps dropped back to normal. At 28-30*C ambient temp, my cpu was 34-36*. Go figure.. Well, I'll stick to the hsf for now.. if it goes up again I'll have to figure it out. But in the meantime, I picked up a used 42" plasma tv (Akai) and hooked it up to my computer last night. It took some time and frustration to finally get it set back to 800x600. I never really looked up info on tv's before, but man are they pathetic. An HDTV that can output 480, 720, and 1080 can still only support a max resolution of 856x400??(something like that, couldn't remember the exact resolution) Thats incredibly sad. Someone recomended a westinghouse, but I'm not about to spend 1500+ bucks on a tv.

Sure the heatsink is not the problem 😉

I dont know much about HDTV so I cant really help, sorry 🙁 but is weird what you are saying, 8xx-6xx resolution?... Should have expected something better.

Yeah, seems that the only way you can get a decent screen resolution from a hdtv is if it's 50" or more. Crazy though, how such a larg screen has such a poor resolution, but a small monitor can do sooo much better. Maybe I should try and sell this tv and go for an LCD hdtv. Someone said to look at Westinghouse.. Anyway, everthing is working fine, and I'm able to surf the web and stuff, but only at 800x600. Dont get me wrong, the picture is great, but all the windows are massive! And just think of what it would be like with a 50" plasma running 1440x900 or greater!! 😀

Anyways.. How's your computer doing? You get your stuff in yet? Lets see some scores!

Got my RMA'ed Seagate 500GB yesterday, gonna order the Raptor today or tomorrow at latest. Should be gettin it on Weds.
My Corsair RMA should be here on weds too or thursday at latest. I emailed them to know whats the status of my RMA case just to know.

Should be posting scores soon hehe, is taking so long...

Sorry to hear you guys are having a few problems. Since I don't over clock everything seems fine on mine I guess, except for the crackling coming from the on board audio! So I got a sound card!

I asked Slim in a PM already but I'll ask the rest of you since this is a string having to do with the 680i motherboards!
I bought the Asus P5N32-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i. Since I was having that crackling problem a lot of us asus 680i owners are having I decided to get a new sound card. Creative 70SB046A00000 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional Series http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829102005

My question is this, should I take the asus sound card out and in the bios, what are my options...does it just say enable & disable for the onboard sound?

Thanks all!

mcparty, u never told me u were having problems with your supremefx (did you?)

if you do, then just take off that card and install the new one. Install the drivers for the x-fi and since you dont need anymore the supremefx, uninstall it.

as I said, I dont think there is an option to disable onboard audio. never saw one in BIOS neither the manual.

Yeah, seems like a problem a lot of the Asus boards had. I decided not to wrestle with it and just get a sound card, I enjoy my gaming to much to mess around with it and this is a good card at a good sale price so why not! LOL

My next purchase... I'm looking at the Samsung 225B 22 inch wide screen Monitor. I found it at Cost Central for $317., new, factory sealed with free delivery! Hard to beat. I did email Newegg to see if they would match the price, haven't heard anything yet. There were about 15 legit online stores that had a better price than Newegg did. I hope they do something, I like dealing with them! Hell...I even won a Newegg Backpack! LOL

I'll talk with ya all soon! take care!

Hey, nice to hear that you are gonna get a new screen 😉
Just make sure it has HDCP 😉 you always want to be ready for blue-ray and hd-dvd.

Im interested on getting the Sceptre x24 Naga Gamer which comes with HDMI so once I get my PS3 I can play it 1080p!!! xD!!! but this is gonna happen late march since its not released yet and Sceptre Support said its coming out late march. But I can wait :)

That sucks to hear about your sound.. all you really need to do is uninstall your drivers and put in the new card, and then install those drivers that came with it. Simple! Well, I'm gonna keep this tv an account that it was free, lol. Maybe when I graduate I'll treat myself to what's hot then. As for my temps, they are still reading 45*C. Later on, I'll lower to defualts and see if they drop to 35*C. Still cant wait to see some scores!!!

Yes is simple, but you know, most motherboard come with built-in sound and built-in connectors. The striker is an exception. Also have in mind, most motherboard can disable onboard sound so you will have no problems with your sound card. The striker is an exception, since you dont need to disable anything if you dont use the SupremeFX.

Scarlet, fix that temp problem. I hate to see that you using such a great cooler giving you bad results.

Please keep us posted.

I got this on another string I started under Asus motherboards...

yar, bios>>advanced>>onboard device configuration

Picture:

Here you have 2 settings:
(1) HD Audio - set to: DISABLE
(2) FRONT PANEL support type - set this to: HD Audio

With the second setting configured like this you can connect X-Fi to the front panel connectors. I have a different X-Fi but your model is supposed to support HD audio connectors, I think. You can check this anyway.

Hope this helps 😉
