Hey hey hey, it aint over till the fat lady sings! Sorry for not posting... at all, but my harddrive is defective or something cause my comp will run for a while and then go to BSOD. Then upon restart will check the HDD for errors in memory. I bought a new hdd and will install it tonight. I'll also post my Bios settings so you guys can go off what I got. Until then, find the nVidia Overclocking Guide via google and read through it so you have a better understanding of what needs to be changed in Bios before you begin to OC. Also, you'll have a better chance of reaching 3.4ghz like I did if you leave your multiplier at 9x. I'll post my Bios settings tonight (hopefully) or tomorrow at work. For now, here is my layout:

C2D e6600 (2.4ghz) @ 3.42ghz
2gb ddr2-800 @ 900mhz 5-5-5-15
Ultra Xfinity 650watt psu with SLi support
680i motherboard
2 - 8800gts in SLi (maybe will be 2 8800gtx... 8) )
Zalman 9500LED (recommend the 9700LED if you dont have one yet)
Onboard sound (Realtek HD audio)
7-in-1 floppy card reader (Compusa brand)
Samsung dvd-rw drive
Maxtor 500gb Sata (300) with 16mb cache (when I get my replacement 250gb, I'll add that in too)
4 (soon 5) Aerocool 120mm fans with over 89cfm to replace stock fans in my Gigabyte case. One in front (not visible), 2 in rear, and 1 in the side panel I put in myself that blow onto the GPU cards. The fifth is going to be a blowhole.
3 Blue Cold cathode lights (1 broke :? )

And what good would a computer like this be without a proper screen and speakers?

Samsung 19" widescreen at 1440x900 with 2000:1 contrast ratio and 2ms response time.

Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers (I really want the Promedia Ultra 5.1 🙁 )

Like I said, I'll be posting up pics, so wait for them!

Man do I feel dumb, it was my torrent app that caused all the crashes.. :x I'm taking the pics of my comp now, so just wait a bit. Oh, and I'll get my BIOS up also.

EDIT: Argh! :x Even though I removed it, some files are still being corrupted. I started a completely new install of XP and will get everything running today. So pics some time tonight.

Man, thats bullcrap, well I think it would have been impossible for you to know it was the bitorrent app. Good luck and we still waiting for the pics 😉

I finally got everything back up and running. :? But anyway, here's my BIOS for those who wanted to know.

Under Advanced Chipset Features:

----System Clocks-
CPU Multiplier: 9x
PCIe x16_1: 125mhz (Linkboost)
PCIe x16_2: 100mhz
PCIe x16_3: 125mhz (Linkboost)
SPP<-->MCP Ref. Clock: 251mhz (Linkboost, i think)

-------HT Multiplier---
SPP --> MCP: 5x
MCP --> SPP: 5x

ALL Spread Spectrum Options: Disabled

----FSB & Memory Configuration-
CPU Frequency: 3420.0
CPU Multiplier: 9x

FSB Memory Clock Mode: Unlinked
FSB: 1520

(thats 380*4=1520, the max I got at 6x and 8x was 415, so even though I haven't tried yet, it would be theoretically possible to achieve 415 * our 9x multiplier = 3735.0 mhz!!!! That's 3.735 ghz for those who got lost in the math. :) )

Memory: 900mhz

------Memory Timings--
tCL: 5
tRCD: 5
tRP: 5
tRAS: 15
Command Per Clock: 2T

Now back out to:

----CPU Configuration-
EVERYTHING DISABLED
**Except: Execute Diable Bit: Enable
CPU Core 1: Enable

Now back out to:

----System Voltages-
------------Setting______Current
CPU Core: 1.55______1.51 (?, Dont know why, but it works)
CPU FSB: 1.5______1.5
Memory: 2.1______2.1

EVERYTHING ELSE: Auto

Now back out:

nVidia GPU Ex: Enable
Linkboost: Enable

That's it! Have fun OCing and remember, I'm not gonna be held responsible for your new fire pit, if it so happens. 8)

Pics will be up sometime tonight, promise! :)

Hey scarlet some questions...

do you think I can put my PCIe x16_1 at 125mhz without having linkboost enabled? will that cause unestability while overclocking or in general?

Also, did having all the spectrums disabled helped while overclocking? btw whats that for? I have no idea what is it for... explain me :)

What ram did you get? I kinda forgot now, I think you got some CAS4 memories, and now that you overclocked them, you had to bring them to 5-5-5-12 right?

Isnt your voltage kinda high for that % of overclocking you have?

what do you mean with CPU FSB: 1.5_______1.5???

some dumb question... what is nvidia gpu ex?

finally

IM STILL WAITING FOR THOSE PICZ

To answer your questions: Yes, you can change the PCIe to 125 if you want without linkboost. If you change any of the PCI speeds, I think linkboost disables itself. I haven't tried, so lemme know what happens, lol. Seriously though, it shouldnt make any difference, stability should not be an issue. You could also use Prime95 to run a torture test.

As for the Spread spectrums... it's what the nVidia Overclocking guide recommended. I'm not sure why, but I'm thinking that they inhibit cpu performance for better heat control. Or vice versa, if the heat is in control, it may increase bus speed a little. I don't know for certain.

I got 2 gigs of G.Skill ddr2-800... not sure about the model #, it was cheap, lol! They came at 5-5-5-15, so really the ram could probably go up a bit more keeping the same timings. I just haven't finished OCing yet. Which answers your next question.

Yes they are high. I'm still going to try and up my FSB to 415. Then when I get something stable, I'll mess with the ram. At that point, I'll reduce voltage until I get errors, then bump it up a notch. Kinda working backwards, but it works for me.

The FSB: 1.5_______1.5 was me trying to keep everything in line sort of in a chart. This site doesnt let you just space things the way you want. It deletes empty spaces. The first 1.5 is my setting, and the other is the actual. The CPU Core voltage was the only one that was different.

nVidia GPU Ex is kinda like the Linkboost, in that it speeds up the GPU when heavier apps (games) start becoming more demanding.

Here's the pics, sorry for the quality, but my brother has my camera and I had to use my phones 2 megapixel camera instead.

Tried taking the front end with the flash... didn't really help. :?

SP_A0057.jpg

There's the black samsung drive, and my 7 in 1 floppy card reader. I'm too lazy to paint the floppy lol. :)

SP_A0058.jpg

Side panel, with the fan I put in myself. 😀 I put it as low as possible to blow on the cards.

So, you have linkboost enabled, all spectrums disabled. Is kinda funny you working backwars 😛 also make sure you squeeze the juice of that RAM 😉
I have a question, did you have to increase the northbridge voltage? what any other voltages did you increase apart from the vcore?

Hey nice pc you got in there 😉

Looks like you love NEONS! hehehe

Is that PSU an Ultra X-Finity?

I always thought you were using an Striker-Extreme!!! OMG 8O

nice job 😉

Yeah, its a X-finity. The Striker wasnt out, so I got the eVGA and had it before most people even ordered their own, lol.

No, I didn't mess with the North or south voltage. Just CPU, CPU FSB, and Memory.

And thanks, the only thing left to work on, is cutting out the blowhole, or put another in the side panel to blow in front of he hsf.

Let me guess, Ultra X-Finity 2G 600Watts w/ after spin tech? or is it just the 1st generation?

Also, I dont understand when people say voltage of CPU FSB. please explain me that.

Actually, it's 650watts. And no, it doesn't have the after spin (fans keep spinning to cool your pc after it is shutdown, for you guys who were lost). Besides the Core CPU voltage, there is also a CPU FSB voltage. I'm not sure what differentiates the two, but the FSB is limited to 1.5 volts on my eVGA board, whereas the Core CPU voltage can go much higher.

Anyways, I finished OCing my computer and actually did better than my 3.735 goal. That's right, I got Windows to boot @ 3.8ghz!!! And that's on air cooling alone. But then again, it was pretty glitchy. And I had to down the FSB to 1680 (420) to run 3DMark06... well, stable enough. Then I had my two 8800gts OCed as well, but not much. From 515 or 500mhz(whichever) core clock to 600mhz and 1550 to 1625 memory clock. So what was my final 3DMark06 score?

~14032~

Of roughly all 788,736 there were only 3539 computers with higher scores than my own, not too shabby at all.

Of all 27 identical systems, I was placed 13th. The greates factor in the score difference was, of course, cpu speed, with the highest @ 3.9+ghz.

Here are the pics of the score:

WooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooW 3.8Ghz with a Zalman 9500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dowg Im gonna kill you! 😀

Do you think I can get it to 3.8Ghz with a Zalman 9700? 😀

Congratulations for your result, Thats an impressive one 😉 I will come and ask you for recommendations once I start my OC!!!

So you have your CPU FSB voltage to 1.5 which is the max right? (answer please)

Once again, congratulations and I hope you can help me if I get stuck (I hope not) while I OC! :)

BORONI1, I have not yet started OC, but once I do, I will post my results in here dont worry 😉

Boron, I have already posted my BIOS, read up a few posts, hmmm?

My CPU voltage is at 1.45 now running @3.42ghz. It WAS at 1.65 running @3.8. What your thinking of, is the CPU FSB voltage. And yes, the maximum is 1.5 and yes, that was what I had it at to reach 3.8ghz.

You shouldnt have any problems, but remember, I said it was kinda glitchy. Also, I dont think I mentioned it, but I had to increase my ram to 1015mhz to keep up with the cpu; but really it was still falling behind. It was at a 5:6 ratio. But that's what you get with cheap ram!

Araña Escarlata

dont you think 1.65v is waaaaaaaaaay to high voltage? I think the recommendation is not too go higher than 1.5v.

Also, I plan to start increasing my RAM once I get to 400Mhz 😀 but thats a hard way to go which I have to accomplish U_U

BTW, what are your temps at 3.7Ghz and what were your temps at 3.8Ghz?

Like I had said before, I'm not newer to OCing than anybody else. This was my first time, and I dont know much on fsb mhz in ratio to voltage. So if it seems high, it probably is. But it seemed to be more stable with the higher settings, and at 3.7, I think I was at about 48-50*C and around 54-58*C at 3.8ghz. I was pretty lucky to only have my system restart once because of heat. If I had on of those Monsoon II peltier hsf, I would probably be running 3DMark06 at 4ghz, lol.

Actually, you should be able to boot 3.4ghz right away with no problems. From there, work your way up with increments of 10mhz. So start with 375(1500) or 380(1520) and go from there. Good luck! And post your scores.

Those are temps in Load right? or idle? please specify both 😀

I will be able to go to 3.4Ghz! I promise!
and yes I will post my scores 😉

BTW, did you run orthos or a dual prime95? TAT?

Those temps show both, idle-load. I ran Prime95, and of course at 3.8ghz caught an error within the first minute. So I didn't really bother to try it at 3.7 either. At 3.4, everything runs smooth and Prime95 didn't find any errors within the half hour I ran it. Even 3.6ghz should run just as smooth.
