Question NVMe SSD does not initialize after turning off the PC on the Gigabyte B650 motherboard

Hello, I purchased a Fanxiang S880 2tb SSD drive. I ran into a problem.

Problem:
I installed the B650M PRO AX v1.2 into the motherboard.2 - the disk is not displayed in the BIOS - as if the slot is empty. I tried different ways, then checked the SSD in another motherboard (Gigabyte A520m) - the disk was initialized and worked fine. Then I inserted the disk back into the slot of my motherboard and flashed the latest BIOS version (FB3d) via Quick Flash. After the firmware, the disk was displayed in the BIOS and in the Windows 11 system. But after turning off and turning on the computer, the SSD disappears again. Only resetting/flashing the BIOS helps.

I also checked in my Fanxiang S880 1tb board - it works flawlessly. I inserted another Fanxiang S880 2tb - the same initialization problem - the disk is not visible until you flash or reset the bios.

I checked the disk in both m2 slots - no changes
Both slots work through the CPU, there are no chipset slots on the board

I wrote to Gigabyte technical support - they didn't help in any way. They said at first that they had not tested such an SSD. After I threw them the "stuffing" of the disc, they said that a similar disc was Gloway YI Series YCT2TNVMe-M.2/80 - is in the list of supported devices. I.e. it should work

What could it be?

SSD Components:
Controller: Maxio MAP1602 (four-channel buffer-free controller for PCIe Gen4).
TLC Memory: LGLY256GWYCB1 chips (4 pcs.)

System:
Percent - AMD Ryzen R7 7700
Mother - B650M AORUS PRO AX (1.2)
BIOS Ver: FB3d - the latest from 10/20/24
Video card - GeForce RTX™ 4070 SUPER GAMING OC 12G
RAM: KingBank 2x32 6000 mhz
PSU - AMP GH 1000 W ATX 3.1 PCIe Gen 5.1
Operating System: Windows 11
SP: 24H2 26100.2161

After the firmware, the disk was displayed in the BIOS and in the Windows 11 system. But after turning off and turning on the computer, the SSD disappears again. Only resetting/flashing the BIOS helps.
You're advised to clear the CMOS like so;
Disconnect from the wall and display, then remove the CMOS battery from the board, press and hold down the power button for 30secs to drain any residual power on the board, then replace the CMOS battery after 30mins.

Just curious, where on Earth are you sourcing these parts from?
Might want to read through this reddit. Technically all NVMe's should drop in to the M.2 slot but if the drive is either of lackluster quality or the drive is faulty and incompatible with the BIOS microcode, then you might end up with the drive not operating as intended.

You might just need to RMA the drive.

I was pulling out the battery. Nothing changed after that. SSD works normally after BIOS reset. I have transferred files there, I can use them. But if you turn off the PC and turn it on again, the disk is not initialized by the system.

From this brand - Fangxiang - I already take the 5th drive, the previous 4 work fine (the earliest one is already a year old - it is installed in the system as the main drive). Therefore, it is a great surprise for me to encounter such a problem. I think it can be fixed at the BIOS firmware level.

I ordered the components from China. And not for the first time - there have never been any problems. KingBank is a great brand, Fangxiang has not failed before either. I also bought a KingBank KP200 Plus 512 gb for $ 30 - it works great, the filling is completely from SKhynix: both the controller and memory chips. I took a replacement for my Samsung 980 pro.

At the moment, there is a hypothesis that it's about the firmware of the SSD. I found a person who has a PC with a 1in1 filling like mine, but his disk is Fanxiang S880R 2tb - everything works fine.

On the product page on AliExpress, the description states:

"Notice:
1.S880R is just a number to distinguish S880. They are essentially the same product, but the chip version of S880R is never and S880R has heatsink. Their outer packaging is the same.
2.The S880R product received by the buyer has already installed the heatsink. If the buyer does not need to use the heatsink,he can use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws and remove the heatsink."

It turns out that the controller firmware has been updated in the S880R. Also, in reviews on the Internet on screenshots from the program CrystalDiskInfo, the firmware version differs from mine.

I am writing to the Chinese with a request to send the firmware files and instructions.

Now I am 90% sure that the problem is in the firmware. Is it possible to read the firmware image from a working ssd disk so that I can flash this image into my disk?
 
I have exactly same issue with Gigabyte B650M AORUS PRO AX (rev. 1.3) and Silicon Power US75 4TB which have same controller (Maxio MAP1602).
Hi. Can you send a screenshot, what is your ssd firmware version? I am now 99% sure that the problem is in the firmware of either the SSD disk or the BIOS

Today I received a reply from the store in the AliExpress chat:


"Hello, we have received feedback from some buyers that the product cannot be used normally. Their motherboard models are mainly Asrock and Gigabyte. The current problem is that the SSD cannot be recognized in the Bios and conflicts occur on some motherboard models. I have sent all the information to the engineer, including the feedback you provided. We are still waiting for the solution and suggestions from the engineer.

I have an SSD firmware upgrade software, but unfortunately your firmware number does not meet the requirements. I am not sure if it is a problem with this batch, because we rarely have computers that meet the requirements but the SSD cannot be recognized. This is a new problem that has suddenly increased recently. We are still collecting information and waiting for the results of the engineers."
