I have been running 3.5 Ghz w/an Intel stock HSF, on an i7 930
67x21 @1.625 vcore, stable temps 65 in prime95, 1337 Memory, @ 1.50.
This is on an ASUS P6X58D-E, Corsair 1600 9,9,9,24, and an ATI 5770. I now have a thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme and want to go farther.
I am thinking of working toward:
4.0Ghz by way of 200x20 w/1603 Mem.
This seems pretty straight forward, if I can get there.
I have some questions
where does the 1603 mem speed come from? I know that upping the BLCK ups the memory, but I am not sure what the ratio is and if it is constant.
Is there a reason to drop the mulitpier and up the BLCK? That would seem to take more power plus put my memory out of spec. But it does seem to provide more zip.
What about the PCIe and QPI, should those be adjusted some?
Oddly, the bios is reporting 6,6,6,18 on my 9,9,9,24 memory. Is this becuase I am running it under spec?
I am comfortable going with the 200x20 and see how far I can go, what voltages may be required to make it work, but 200x20 seems over simple and that by going a different route I can get more perfomance from the rig.
I am hoping for some opinions and answers and I hope I used most of the terms correctly. thank you for you help.
