OC'ing Q6600 Questions

SO I have a q6600 and an evga 780i board..Right now I have the q6600 at 3ghz with a cpuz voltage of 1.264 and bios voltage of 1.3 its 100% stable prime 95ed it for almost 8 hours my question is is the voltage too high for the cpu? do you think I could get it lower or is that about right for this cpu at that speed...Also I left the fsb voltage to auto? should i manually set it to the stock voltage and then go up from there if needed? ALso does having a high fsb voltage could that increase cpu temps. If you need any more info let me know. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
 
Hi, sounds about right to me (I am a novice too but I have a Q6600 and have just overclocked it). I have a voltage of 1.30625 for 3.2 GHz (400*8), MCH @ 1.140, DRAM @ 1.9v. Mine is also stable. I can't go below that vCore or it becomes unstable, what happens if you drop it back a bit? I have read that dropping the multiplier and increasing the FSB allows you to drop the vCore a bit which obviously has a nkock on effect on temps.
I run at 38-45 idle and between 55 and 66 at load on p95, it would be cooler but my twin 4770's create a lot of heat. By FSB voltage, I assume you mean MCH voltage (?). I had read that the order to increase voltages were : 1st RAM, 2nd MCH, 3rd vCore.
I did this until I got a stable OC then dropped them back in turn to the lowest I could get them without a crash. I never had to go outside normal range for any of them.
Hope this helps in some way?! In short your voltages seem ok but try dropping multiplier/increasing FSB and/or voltage until no longer stable.

xtream, that's about right. Dram will depend on factory recommendations for the RAM you are using.

My Q6600 @ 3.6 GHz. is running at 1.425 volts drooping to 1.40; P95 load temps 61 C. - 65 C. Most of the regulars are running 3.3 GHz. - 3.6 GHz. at 1.40 - 1.45 volts. At that point, so many factors come into play including case and cooler choices.
