Old hard drive to new computer

Hey guys, i get a new-ish desktop and i want to add another hard drive to it, how would i do that

First step is to install the new hard drive by connecting the power connector and SATA cable.

Second step, turn on your PC and follow the steps listed in this guide to ensure that your hard drive is visible in your My Computer. Guide: If you installed a new disk but the system can't see it

Tecmo is right as long as your old HDD is SATA. If it's an IDE hard drive (you'll know because it'll have ribbon cables), you won't be able to use it in your new desktop. However, for $25 or so you could buy an IDE HDD enclosure and use it as an external.

What is a SATA cable, im new to this

It is also important to know that some older hard drives(Before PMR recording) are quite a bit slower then the new ones because of lower density(has nothing to do with drive size and how much data per inch of platter the drive holds).
