If your friend has another sound card he can drop in then disable the onboard sound and try using the card. It shouldn't cause any problems to disable the onboard (in fact if your using a card you should always disable onboard). Just my two cents.

I am the noob that asks questions constantly, but only so that I can learn and one day be your boss! :)

Sorry you must have understood - he hasnt got onbord sound enabled whilst using the soundcard, its disabled.

The problem is that he's a professional muscian and is 100% sure that disabled onboard sound can cause probelms with his dedicated sound card. Is it possible for disabled onboard sound to cause any conflict whatsoever with a dedicated card if the onboard sound is disabled via the bios.

nope, it shouldnt because it has no presence in windows and it is physically not operating, so there would be no interference.

Yes, I have an Asus A7N8X and it sounds better than an audigy.

You don't need to disable the onboard sound to use an discrete sound card. They will never interfare. Telling you from practical experience

On another note - my friend is thinking of getting either an M-audio delta 44 or the delta 66 by Midiman.

Does anyone know of any conflicts this may cause with a GA-8SR533, P4 2.4 (533fsb), 256mb 266mhz DDR, Win XP/RH 8?
