Overclocking a qx6700

i have overclocked my qx6700 stable @ 3.15... i did so by just uping the fsb to 1250... now i am at a goal to get to 3.4-3.6...

my system is

MSI p6n sli motherboard (not the platnum)
qx6700 extreme cpu
2GB DDR2 667
ATI 5770 graphic card
650w P/S
Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit)

i have tried to increase the FSB to 1300 but it fails during a stress test using prime95... it goes to a blue screen and restarts..

so what can i do to push this chip further i know it can be done... help please!

im gonna be online for a while working with this thing...

If you have a QX chip, it has an unlocked multiplier. Why not work with the internal multiplier before you start tinkering with the FSB.

But let me guess - your memory settings are on Auto. If so, here's what is happening. Your FSB clock is at 1300 MHz. Your FSB frequency is at 325 MHz. With your memory settings on Auto, you are increasing your memory clock at the same percentage.

I am guessing that your DDR2-667 RAM is running at (325/266)*667 or at DDR2-815 speeds and your RAM is limiting your overclock.

Go back to the stock frequency and set the RAM clock to 2*FSB frequency. Your FSB frequency should be 266 MHz. Your memory clock should be 533 MHz. Your FSB clock should be 1066 MHz.

Now, increase the internal multiplier to 12. With a small voltage increase, your CPU should be able to run at just under 3.2 GHz. Test. If good, you may be able to set your internal multiplier to 13 and run at 3.458 GHz. That is iffy. Most Q6600/Q6700 cores stop working around 3.4 - 3.6 GHz.

If it doesn't run, go back to X12 and then start increasing the FSB freq.

You will need much better than stock cooling. Don't increase vcore over 1.50 volts and keep your temps under 70 C under load. I suspect that you will reach temperature limits before you reach voltage limits.

With the x12 multiplier it runs, passes the prime 95 stress test for like 30 min then blue screen dump

What is your take on this? I think from the other post it is my ram striding I think... So I'm guessing a new motherboard and better ram will allow me to achieve the overclock..

If your system only runs 30 minutes before it blue screens, it is not stable.

Try this before buying any parts:
