I am an old overclocker, the kind that likes jumpers and solder, and I am having a hard time getting any boost with my setup that will not hang or crash when I play Age of Conan.

I had gotten a stable 500mhz x 8multiplier cpu with 1066mhz ram to boot just fine, but even at greatly reduced speeds I can't get the game to go well.

I feel the amount of different options are hurting me, as I am likely missing an adjustment.

I will list everything I think could be of importance, if someone has the time I would certainly appreciate the help. Sean.

OS Vista bussiness 32 bit with SP1 ( 64 bit has been shipped to me)

MB ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP P35 775 RT
using driver and BIOS that came with the board

MEM 2Gx2|OCZ DII800 OCZ2VU8004GK R

NVIDIA 8800 GTS 320mb OC
It is stock with 575mhz Gpu and 850mhz DDR3
Using the latest driver 7.15.11.7516

WD SATA hard drive of no importance

CPUCOOLER|ARCTIC P4|ACFZ7-PRO R

Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 Ghz (Wolfdale)
Default FSB 1333Mhz Quad Pumped - 333Mhz BIOS Setting
Multiplier 9x
Power Dissipation 65w
VID Voltage Range 0.85-1.3625V
Thermal Specification 72.4°C
Core Stepping C0
SSPEC Number SLAPL
Manufacturing Process 45nm

Update the BIOS! 500 Mhz FSB is a bit unstable still on that board from my testing. Use 444 x 9 = 4056 or something like that. Up the NB voltage to 1.55, disable transaction booster! Disable static read control! Disable all the spread spectrum junk! Disable speed step! Disable all other processor options for now. C1e, Vanderpool, disable bit, etc. Enable load line calibration! Put your RAM in sync mode at 888Mhz for now at 5-5-5-15!

Can you down load and run the newest core temp and list the VID of your processor?

That way I can place a guess at the amount of VCore you'll need to run 1 Ghz over specs.

you want me3 to check my current un overclocked core temp and VID? (once I find out what VID is...some voltage I assume)

Just Download the program Core Temp, and run it, and list what it says your VID is. Core Temp will list the Factory one, while CPUz Will list the current VCore value. Not the default one.

VID is the chips factory default VCore setting.

Disable that junk as well.

You'll need the 64 bit versions of HWMonitor, Core Temp, CPUz. (May not be 64 bit version, but will work) ATI Tools and Riva Tuner.

Those are all standard issue free tools for overclocking. And then get Prime 95 64 bit version!

One more thing, I don't want to install the Asus AI software, I think it does things on it's own sometimes. Any reason to keep it?

Cool! I have the same board, though not the same chip, so I know that much about it. And its the board that makes the chip go!

Off to mail some e bay junk and get some food! Be back in like an hour, you will be done by then!

OK, I am running a base 3d mark 2005 just to make sure it has no issues.

any chance you can tell me how to take a screen shot and where Vista would put it?

OK, I have the images. I just saw that in CPUZ my multiplier is down to 6. The MB bios must have a underclock default, the multiplier is 9 in the other image.

Hey, whats the video card in there? An 8800 GTS 320?

And what exactly is that ram? Their value line? What's its supposed rating they want you to use? 667?

I wanna play some Halo 3! I'd change the FSB to 420, use the x 9 multiplier for 3770 in speed, set the VCore to 1.3500 in the bios, Turn on Load Line Calibration, Disable speed step, Set the Ram mode to sync mode, so its 1:1 at 420 for 840 Mhz, Manually enter in the Rams timings and use 1.90 Volts on it, Turn off static read control and Transaction booster, disable all spread spectrum junk...

And most of all, if your Vid card is in the second PCIe slot, Move it to the first Slot or your Video mode link width is only x 4 of the x 16 it should be!!!!

Save bios and re boot! Test with the usual!

just saw the mem needs to be set munually, but I will wait til you tell me what to do. here is tthe comment in case you didn't see it on the mem page.

Manufacturer page reads ""In order to boot on some motherboards this product is programmed to 667MHz; to run at 800MHz you will need to manually set the speed to 800MHz and voltage to 2.0V in your BIOS "

another comment
"This ram is great! Can run much, much faster than they sell it for. 5-5-5-15@800mhz 1.8v 5-5-5-15@1000mhz 2.1v!!! SMOKIN! "
