Hello,
I was just about to buy this board's rev 1.0 and finally finish my new rig when I discovered an even better version exists. So has anyone have any idea if the rev 2.0 is already available from retailers or if not how long do I have to wait to get my hands on it? What I like about it is that the lagacy com and lpt ports are replaced with more usb. Also I expect the bios issues of the rev 1.0 to be fixed out of the box.

Cheers,
Todor

I was hoping to start buying the components for my new machine this weekend but now I'm wondering if I should wait for the rev 2.0.

I guess waiting a few more days to see what's happening won't hurt.

Well that's the problem - you may have to actually wait for a few more weeks or even couple of months.
My guess is most suppliers are stocked full of rev 1.0 boards (at least that's the case where I live) and may not restock for a long time. I'm affraid they won't restock until the X38 comes out actually. Then they'll order batches of X38 boards togather with the updates of the old boards. Hope I'm wrong :)
If anyone has seen a livnig rev 2.0 in the wild that will give me hope :)

Probably there's nothing to really worry about.

It's only what I read from reviews and it basically says the memory performance is not quite up to par beause of bios imperfections. They were refering specifically to memory and memory overclocking. And indeed the first update of the rev 1.0 bios released from gigabyte says:

"Enhance memory performance and add Turbo options".

For the "C" version it doesn't sound that generic:

"Enhance DDR3 overclocking ability to 1333MHz or higher"

Here's a review that claims P35C-DS3R has poor memory overclocking (I just read the conclusion of this one due to "review reading exhaustion"):

To be honest I think the rev 1.0 will be just fine but I'd be more pleased with the rev 2.0 because of some mundane yet nagging reasons:
1) having useless com and lpt ports was a minor imperfection of the board I though I have to live with. Now I discover it can be just perfect - nothing I won't use and plenty of PCI slots for the rest.
2) the greedy little voice wanting not to miss out on the latest&greatest.

Cheers,

Pretty much any DDR2 on the market today. If you want dual DDR2/DDR3 get the almost identical p35C-ds3r (note the C in the name)

OMG, you mean compatibility. I was too embarrassed to reply and ask what the heck is computability :)

There's a list of officially supported memory types on Gigabyte's site. Click Memory Support List here:

Yeah, pretty much any DDR2-800 would be fine, even if it's not on the list. If it's not on the list it usually just means they haven't tested with it. OCZ Vista or OCZ Reaper or Kingston HyperX work, for example.

Happy to report that as of yesterday the BIOS download for the rev 2.0 of P35-DS3R is available on the gigabyte site. And it seems it's exacly the same as the BIOS for rev 1.0 :) One more reason not to care about the board rev you get.

It seems that the boards are different. (taken from the Gigabyte website)

Yep they srue are different. I hope the difference is not too big because I could not wait any more and had to buy the P35C-DS3R today. It is at rev 1.1 and has the legacy parallel + com ports at the back. However it also has the red capacitors around the CPU socket like the rev 2.0 of P35-DS3R.

Turns out the gigabyte DS3 boards all over the city I live were comming from the same supplier and that bastard exhausted the rev 1.0 supply and did not intend to re-stock with rev 2.0 boards any time soon (!@#!@#). I literaly had to run there to buy one of the 3 remaining P35C-DS3R. I suppose I'll be just fine with it but still it was an enraging experience. That's what you get for living in a stupid eastern european country.

As far as i know the p35(not p35C) DS3r rev 2 is just getting rid of the legacy(putting it on expansion slots addins) stuff and adding more usb ports.

See the Black set of pin's at the bottom? Parallel Port. The white one next to it? Serial Port pins. 2 sets of USB pins gone. Those are on the back.

Red caps? mehhh who knows ultra durable 3? Color may just be related to heat tolerance. they seem to have moved the cd-in too....but who uses that?

I would not worry unless you don't have a usb expansion slot thingy(i have lots from other boards. and there are still 4 on the back anyway)
