Hello.

Im considering upgrading my Mobo, CPU and RAM but i don't know how much i would really gain in battlefield 4 performance.

My current setup:
Intel Core2 Duo E8400
Gigabyte GA-EG41MF-US2H
Patriot 4GB (DDR2-800)
ASUS GTX 660 2GB

swapped with:
AMD FX 6300
ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 mATX
G.Skill Ares 1600MHz CL9 8GB DDR3 Kit
....... total of 230€

1) Would this upgrade mean any severe bf4 performance improvement that would be worth spending those 230 Euros? I'm keeping the GPU.

2) I know mATX mobos aren't the best choice for OCing the AMD CPUs but I'm limited with mATX format, so what should i expect with OCing the 6300 on that motherboard? CPU Cooler is scythe Mugen 4.

Thank you, Nino!

I highly suggest waiting for a new case. The fx-6300 and M5A97 R2.0 are a great combo. If you don't overclock the fx-6300 then it isn't going to be a big improvement over your dual core. Compare fx-6300 (not overclocked) vs i3-4xxx. You'll see they game about the same but once you overclock the fx-6300 then it pulls ahead.

EDIT. Earlier I said quad-core when I meant to say hexacore. my bad. point was, quad core and above is better.
I think it is worth the upgrade. With the new setup I'd expect you to run BF4 on High, not Ultra with AA turned down a bit...yet pull 60fps. If you are gaming at 1080p, High, 0xMSAA, then I'd expect 55+ fps. maybe higher.

Moving from a dual core to a quad core will help. And having 2x4gb is great for BF4. When I boot my machine and start the game I see that my rig is using almost 6GB of RAM. The main thing is the GPU. The 660 is decent but don't expect Ultra with good fps, but you can do High.

Your second question. I don't know. As you said overclocking on a mATX isn't good. Especially when we are talking about fx boards. Any chance you could get a new case?

It would have a prominent performance improvement and I would expect to see it running on High on playable frame rates. I would keep the gpu as a 660 can handle the game fine. I have heard people OCing an FX6300 up to about 4.5ghz and sometimes even up to 4.8ghz! However, I wouldn't recommend going till 4.8ghz as it may seem like an overkill. Go till about 4.2ghz. Hope this helps!

As i said, im limited with mATX (case)! Theres no mATX 970 mobos afaik

@envy14tpe: playing on High settings seems fine to me, my resolution is 1680x1050. Getting an ATX case at the moment no, i might wait a little bit though and get the ATX case. ASUS M5A97 R2.0 should be fine for OCing?
Lets say id overclok the 6300 for about 30%, what would that mean for bf4 performance?

Although has anyone tried OCing the 6300 on 760G chipset?

I totally agree with upgrading the cpu, I just don't want the OP to be limited due to case. A mid tower is needed to get a big boost in performance and cooling.

I think the upgrade path is...case, cpu + mobo + RAM.

@Antares88. What is your PSU?

I was considering buying a used 2500K and the asrock Z77 extreme4-m. Might not cost more if id have to get a new case for AMD setup. Sucha dilema ><

What ATX case would you guys suggest for around $60? Silent, minimal-sleek look (like define r4) is my idea

What country you in?

I've read some reviews on the 200R and temps and noise specs are pretty decent:

.

Im sticking with 55eur price though. This is my setup i've come up with. 500W should be enough right?
