can you combine these?

A member of a forum i frequent is selling a stick of Samsung PC2700 256MB CAS2.5 RAM, which i am considering buying off him. However, i already have a stick of Nanya PC2100 128MB, but i'm not certain of the CAS number. Can i use that stick of 256MB with my existing stick of 128MB?

It is usually not a good idea to mix manufacturer's brand of memory in the same PC. Also, I think the PC2700 DDR SDR will default to the PC2100 DDR SDR's rate. So, I wouldn't recommend taking this route. Risky and unknown outcome, and not effective utilization of the PC2700.

well, keep in mind that i am not an OCer. I would actually be comfortable with 256MB instead of 384MB, either is better than just 128

yep that's rite, the pc2700 will work at the rate of a pc2100. that's why it's always good 2 buy same brand memory modules, because 1 highend module+ 1 low end module will both work at the the rate of the lowend one.

Then buy the Samsung PC2700 256MB an sale your PC2100 128MB and then buy another stick of PC2700. Just make sure it is Samsung, and you'll live a happy OC life.

Oh yeah, you aren't a OCer, but this would be a better plan. Anyway good luck!
