Pci 2 0 x16 300w power supply

i have a comp with a 300w power supply, a empty pci 2.0 x 16 slot. looking to upgrade my vid card. for casual gaming SC2. currently using onboard vid card radeon hd 6550d what is better?

What is the brand of the PSU? This is very important. Many no-name boxes out there won't supply anything close to their rated wattages, and some will even damage your other components.

The comp is an acer aspire am3470-uc30p. power supply is a liteon model: ps-6301-08a3 I guess that i could replace the power supply but there again i would like to know what is decent out there! I have a budget of $170.00

That power supply doesn't have any PCIe power connectors (I'm fairly sure), so you're limited to cards that don't require those. On the bright side, that means you can't spend much money

What are your other specs? We could explore options for other upgrades (most likely including the PSU), but you'll have to have a halfway decent processor to run SC2.

better to spend 50-70bux on a 550w psu as then you will be able to throw any gfx card you want at it... thing is your cpu wont be stellar so be mindful of the fact that you will bottleneck it if you go to big on the gfx... 170 should get you a decent psu and a reasonable gfx card for a small build like yours. especially if you get rebates and the likes from newegg.

I have windows 7. AMD QUAD CORE A8 3800 2.4GHZ. 6GB OF DDR3 MEM. 1TB 5400RPM HD.

I Like that idea to upgrade it as a unit. unfortunatly i won't be able to upgrade the cpu for a long time. I would only need a card that would work well with my other specs. ( windows 7. AMD QUAD CORE A8 3800 2.4GHZ. 6GB OF DDR3 MEM. 1TB 5400RPM HD)
