Pci express 3.0 compatiable with 2.0

Hello everyone i have a gigabyte motherboard which has a pci 2.0 socket but the GPU i am looking is a pci express 3.0 card will it still work. By the way its a gtx 660ti

yes. You are fine, the slots/cards are backward/forward compatible. It's also worth noting that PCIE2.0 bandwidth won't bottleneck any single (or even double) card config yet; so don't feel like your mobo is slowing your card down either.
