I'm looking for an older dual-head graphics card. I have an HP Pavilion a6417c with PCIe x16 (1.0) slot and would like to attach another monitor. Preferably, I'd like to disable the onboard graphics and drop in a dual-head card. Through research I've found that 2.0 cards may work, and 2.1 cards may not work. For the cards I have found, I don't know how to tell if they will be power-hungry or not. Although, some have recommended a 300W or better power supply.

Anyway...

I just want two monitors. I don't care about gaming or polygons. Just Skype on one screen, Office on the other.

All the current (and agreat many older) cards support at least dual monitors.
Look at the price, if it's ove $50 US or 30 quid it's probably far more than you need.
Look at the cards connectors rather than maker or specs: Will it connect to BOTH your monitors? If so, and it's under $50 or £30 then it's fine for your requirements.
The PCI-E 1.1 slots had some issues with later cards but all the others will happily co-exist.
