Hi everyone!
After seeing this :

(starting at 1:20) , I am wondering if buying a pcie 3.0 nvme ssd (the 970 evo plus) for my crosshair viii X570 board is a good idea considering that I definitely want to keep pcie 4.0 enabled in the Bios (mainly for the pcie 4.0 3080ti or 3090 that I will 100% buy at launch).
It seems that even if PCIe 4.0 is downwards compatible with 3.0, in practice there can be problems.
Thing is, I want a good quality SSD (with a good controller) and for example the corsair mp600 or the others using the Phision controler don't really emanate quality..
Sadly I don't think the samsung 980 evo\pro pcie 4.0 ( that was spotted in January at CES) is coming anytime soon. I am searching google daily for news but even a single rumour regarding release, so think I will no longer wait for it (also the positive thing about using a ''slower'' ssd is that the chipset wont get too stressed \hot. My chipset is at 60° when the PC is completly IDLE . I don't want to imagine the temps using a pcie 4.0 ssd ( or will putting it into the first m.2_1 slot - so directly to the 3900x lanes not use\ stress the chipset at all?). But if I have to give up PCIE 4.0 in the bios for the pcie 3.0 ssd then my problem is solved by itsself: I will have to stay on SATA until next year when 980 evo comes out.. 😭
