Just upgraded my 1.4gHZ (bought 12/2000)to Windoze XP pro and the cd
burner (LG12X/8X/32X) doesn't work (player does) and the DVD player
(Pioneer16X) won't read movie CDs. Is this a driver problem? I couldn't
find any driver upgrades on Gateway site.

Thnx

Neither CD burners nor DVD players require drivers at the level of the operating
system. As installed, the basic operating system drivers for CD-type devices
permit them to work as CD-ROM drives.

Xpee is supposed to have its own built-in CD-burning software. Your older CD
burning and DVD playing software may be incompatible with XPee. Ah, the hidden
costs of operating system upgrades. $89 in the store and many hours lost and
dollars spent trying to get the system to work right. Isn't Windows wonderful?

You can right click on the cd burner icon then properties. There is a block
at the top, that if checked, will permit some usage of the cd-rw operation.
(It's a very basic version of Roxio's software.)

This may give you some relief to your problem (I choose to use Nero's
current version which is excellant)>
