is the only difference between the 790 xt and x boards one ddr3 and the other ddr2.

cant wait till i get my board and cpu this week. then friday i get my memory.
 
I want an XT BUT I dont need it 🙁
I need other things more right now......Maybe later when the next PII emerges. We will see, then again I might turn to the dark side and build an i7 975 Rig to replace my AMD HEAD node on the desk.
 
ok i got my ma790x-ud4p and x2 550be. everything works great out of the box but when i try to unlock the 2 cores i get nothing.
when i go into the bios i turn hybird on and set the acc to auto. it restarts saying firmware update and then nothing. i can get a beep like the board is going to post then it loses all power and i have to reset the bios. i dont know if i need to bump the voltage up. if i do how much?
 
yeah i updated the bios to f5
i have tried setting my acc to auto got nothing then i tryed setting my acc to all cores and nothing. i am going to pull the hsf off my cpu and see what batch i got.
 


The Box that came with your 550 should have the batch number......


 
Pull up CPU-Z and see the specs, if it comes up as a kuma I would return the CPU for a new one...

Once you have CPU-Z up it should look like this :

here it is with both programs. the cpuz is showing it correct.
btw had my cpu at 3.5 on stock but it was running about 54 so i dropped it back to stock. looking forward to getting theat new hsf in the mail.

If your 550 dos not want to unlock, dont worry about it... I use my 550 as a dual core and it is stupid fast.

@ 3.856Ghz the 550 is actually faster than the i7 920 @ stock speeds.....

So in all you paid around 100.00$ for a chip that is considered a STEAL for its performance....
 
my gskill memory should be here tuesday along with that hsf and it comes with a free case fan. when i get that installed i am going to see what it will give.
im actually suprised that my system is booting. damn this might be my problem.
im running a single stick of corsair 533 mem lol. was actually suprised it worked.
i wanted my system up andrunning asap. had to wait a week for payday to get the memory
 
Sounds good, but I would not expect any real numbers till you get all the correct hardware...

I thought you already had all your parts.... You should be able to unlock once you install the RAM.... a few weeks ago there was a peep here on Toms that had more or less the same issue and he was able to unlock once he installed the correct amount of ram....
 
i took my hsf off and looked at teh batch number on my cpu and it is 0924 i have read that no one has unlocked the 2 cores on that batch. good thing is that i can still overclock this baby. with my oscalating fan facing my cpu with the side off i was stable at 3.5 with temps at 49 - 51.
 
well i wanted to let everyone know that i RMA'ed my x2 550be batch 0924bpmw because i was having stability issues and got a 0922cpmw back and have all 4 cores working.
 


Just if you're interested to know, I have the same batch! 0922CPMW
 
i have not oced it yet. i have had about 2 hours on it since i had to go to work. im trying to get the voltage correct. i do have cool and quiet enabled along with thermal protection so im not sure if i should disable them or not. i have my vcore at 1.5 and my nbcpu at 1.3 do i need to adjust anything else?
i have tried to check my core temps with everest but none are showing just a cpu temp and cores are 32f lol a little cold.

i will run 3dmark and see what i get.
my windows index score is 7.3 jumped from a 6.4 crazy fast.
