Disable cool n quiet if you are overclocking.....

You NB voltage should be more or less the same as your CPU voltage......It should not be that far apart....

Run CPU-z and check your CPU clock (speed).....

yeah my cpu is running at 800mhz due to cool n quiet.
ok so i will bump my nbcpu volt to 1.5 and give that a try.
thanks for all the info

i had to bump my cpunb vid and cpu voltasge to 1.5 as it bluescreened on the install of 3dmark. seems a lot more stable as install finished but still have a temp of 58 idle and that seems high. i have seen my temp peak at 65 then drop back down fast tho.

You cannot just raise the NB volts to 1.5v and expect a stable system.... you have to raise in increments.... meaning if you are at 3.6Ghz, you should not need more than 1.35/1.36v on the CPU and 1.35v on the NB.....go little by little, dont go crazy cause if you overvolt you will fry the chip....

Once you find your sweet spot, make sure you write down your settings for future reference....

it was crashing with other settings.
i will reset it and see what i can get away with.
i had them lower and got a blue screen on a install of a program.
that is why i bumped them up.

thanks i look back at my notes and see what my stability problem.
i set them both to 1.325 and farcry 2 would not run without hanging. i ran 3dmark06 and got this score
http://service.futuremark.com/home.action;jsessionid=6D1C61024AF93E0446CB9C46DC95E1
then my computer blue screened. i bumped both to 1.35 and seems to be running good right now. and yes my temps have dropped a good amount looking at 47/48 idle and when i was running 3dmark it never got above 60.
thanks for all the help this is new to me and im ear to ear with smiles.
my windows index score for cpu jumped from a 6.4 with 2 cores to a 7.3 with 4 cores.

in prime95 i get a error still and im at 1.375 on both.
still cant run farcry 2 bench but prime 95 gives me a cpu score of 4430.
should i bump both to 1.4 or just my vcore?

ok on my board i have the mem voltage set at 2.1 and the settings for epp and auto for the timmings. btw it is gskill 1066 5-5-5-15

yes the memory is set to the specs i got from gskills site.
i know this is going to sound funny but how in the world do i make a bootable disk with memtest? i use my flash drive to boot amd install win7 rc and know how to do that but i have never seen memtest before.

just read this in g.skills forums about this memory and board.
well i guess it is time to pull dimm 2 out since dimm 1 is under my cpu cooler.
after i place dimm 2 in slot 3 i will see what happens.

If you have an AM3 or AM2+ CPU, you can only have 2 DIMMS [or memory slots] running at 1066, per channel, which means you have to have only 2 sticks in slots 1&2, or 3&4, or 1&4.
If these are you memory slots
[Which I think who it works]

- Dual Channel

Slots ---------------1 2 3 4
"Channel" Config-[1][2] [1][2]

Means it will not support 4 sticks @ 1066.
No 8GB @ 1066
Only 4, and only in certain slots.

Makes it quite a headache.
Should have looked at the Motherboard specs more before buying, but oh well, my bad.
8GB @ 800mhz is ok for me right now, no big loss.
I'll buy a AM3 DDR3 Motherboard and some G.Skill DDR3 1333Mhz RAM

I see...so that's where the problem was...
I was thinking it had something to do with the ram...
It's a good thing you figured it out...Congrats!

well i have not got it 100% yet because when i moved my memory things got worse. i pulled one stick out and still not good.
i put a 1 gig ddr2 800 stick and seemed to be running better.
now i got to get some cd's so i can check my memory but im starting to think that it is either my mem is bad or the board / memory combo.
prime 95 runs great with the 1 gig stick and i always get errors with the 4 gigs.
btw my most stable point is 1.375v i have not tried 1.4 yet to see if things get better.

CPU: AMD 550
MB: Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H
Bios: F5
Video: onboard
Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800mhz 2 x 2gb
Windows 7 64

I can see the AMD II x4 B50 on the screen. Everything looks fine but as soon as I see Starting Windows, the system restart itself or blue screen. I did increase the cpu volt to 1.4v and nb cpu volt to 1.35v, no help.

So is my 550 has the quad-core ability? 😱

I can OC the cpu @ 19 x 200 no problem on stock heatsink. :)
Any help is appreciated

well, normally you cannot use slot 2 and 3 only, meaning you have to make sure the both sticks are under one color (slot) for example my mobo has slots 1 and 2 (yellow) and slots 3 and 4 (brown).... I can use slots 1 and 2 or 3 and 4 or...... all 4 slots at the same time.....

if you have not resolved your stability issue yet, try lowering your ram frequency to 800Mhz and stress your ram.... I had the same issue with OCZ 1066Mhz @ 2.1v and I ended up buying 2 new sticks of G.Skill 800Mhz.... now my pc runs flawless and the ram is stable up to 4.0Ghz.....

well i called gigabyte today and they said 1066 should be fully supported and that note is saying that if your cpu dont support the memory to move them.
i tested my memory with memtest and got 630 errors at 36% pass and it locked my computer up. i installed a 1 gig kingston stick and it passed the memtest.

funny thing is i rma'ed my old cpu that would not unlock because of blue screens and got a 0922 batch that is unlocked and running at 47 c right now and the blue screens must have been my memory. o whell i got the better deal. now time to rma my memory.

@twinturbo, before you unlock make sure your ram is stable and your whole system is stable overall. Also try installing a clean installation of windows once your computer is stable...Once your computer is stable and has a clean installation of windows, then attempt unlocking, If that doesn't work then you got a non-unlockable 550...

well i stuck a 1 gig stick of kingston ddr2 800 in and ran memtest with no problems then i ran everest systen stability test to check the cpu and got no errors in 10 1/2 hours. my vcore and nbcpu is set at 1.35 and my temps never got above 61/62.
im sending my gskill off in the morning and here is a screen of the stability test i did.
stabilitytest.png

i just dropped my voltage to auto and i could not get my cpu temp to 60.
im ear to ear with grin right now.

time to oc and see if i can get a few more mhz

once again thanks videl and ovrclkr for the help and advice.

wow i got me a rocket for a cpu
here is my cpu-z validation
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=675883

im running faster than a AMD Phenom II X4 965

had to adjust voltage a little from the validation. it needed a little boost during load. i set it to 1.4 and seems stable in prime 95.
going to try 1.375 and see what happens as 1.35 blue screens. my temp is getting a little high tho.
