Philips 8432 $99 after rebate at curcuit city is this to good to be true??
Is this a piece of crap or is it ok??
BTW does anyone know who supplies IBM with their burners???

Although I don't have this drive, it probably is not a piece of junk. 8X CDRW drives are getting very cheap lately. My guess would be that the stores are clearing out their 8X drives because in a month or so the market will be flooded with 12X or 16X drives.

Actually, just a word of caution. I've read about quite a few bad experiences with the Philips CDR-Ws in the past.

I don't know much about it, but in the latest MaxPC you can read some stuff, Phillips apparently had a big recall / refund thing going because two models (don't remember which) were seriously BAD...
don't know if that impacts your burner or not... check what the exchange policy is, maybe you can buy it and if it sucks return it...

I had a Philips cdrw drive for about 4 hours one time. supposed to be a 4x4x24 and I couldn't get it to burn a cdr or cdrw at anything above 1x speed, kept crashing system.. Called their support line and they asked me if I could burn at 2x speed, I said yes and they said maybe I just have to burn at 2x speed... ?? I took it back to best buy and bought an Imation and couldn't have been happier
