Planetside

I played during beta and really enjoyed it. You can build your character up over time to use better equipment and vehicles. If I wasn't juggling three pay-to-play games at the moment I would be consider buying it. A couple downsides are, it can sometimes take awhile to find a squad to join and there is a monthly subscription fee (12.99$/month).
Then again, I just played during the beta, so others who are currently playing probably can give much better info and insights.

a couple guys at work are trying to get me into the game now. im really not too keen on the idea of paying a monthly fee to play.

Paying a monthly fee to play a FPS is ludicrous, especially when you consider there are so many better ones available that allow you to play online at no cost. I don't believe that we're doomed to pay a monthly fee for every single online game... unless SOE manages to make Planetside successful.

As long as the free ones continue to be purchased and played, I believe the companies will keep offering them. It wouldn't surprise me, though, that if every single game published by SOE eventually has a monthly fee attached to it. After all, they have to pay the guys to finish the game after it's released.

Yes, I've been looking at quite a few games in the stores lately, and was surprised at the amount of them that are pay online.

I dont have any problem at all paying a monthly subscription for a game that is well supported and enjoyable. Unfortunately, that game hasnt come along just yet.
