Hi guys

so my current setup consists of
an i5 4440
8 GB DDR3
on an ASUS H81M-CS motherboard and a corsair VS 450 PSU

ive saved just about enough for a evga gtx 1070 SC and was wondering if i could put it into my current setup without any problems
i know that i might bottleneck the card in a few CPU demanding games and stuff
So i just wanna know if it will run fine on my current system without any problems

Thanks

Solution
1070 and a next year cpu upgrade should give you at least 3 years of that, perhaps more

5 years is not guaranteed, now that amd made a big push in cpu front, game developers will startto tax 4 cores cpus alot more, requiring minimum 8 threads, so your cpu will not be enough soon, 2 years more or less

what you say has lot of sense, 1060 for 2 years, 1070 for almost 4

2022, i don't think it will go that far giving you great framerates so keep a planned upgrade path for the next decade

enjoy the pc masterace, keep running!

thanks man

wont have any issues with the motherboard right ? i mean its cheap as hell but it should run the 1070 ?

Well, the only issue I can see is your power supply. An i5 plus a 1070 is a pretty decent power demand, I don't know if your 450W power supply will cut it... :-/ It's probably safer to upgrade that as well, you don't want to really push the limits of your power supply, as you risk it giving bad voltages to your components and damaging them.

The motherboard has one PCIe 2.0 x16 slot, which means you won't be getting the full PCIe 3.0 bandwidth from the card, but I think in the real world that only translates to a few % reduction in performance.

Your system will be able to run a EVGA GTX 1070 just fine.

However, as Max1s said, it's recommended to upgrade your power supply. Corsair is a good brand, however your living on the edge with 450W. I would recommend going to something like 650W. EVGA or Corsair will do when it comes to branding, really as long as its reputable and not some cheapo gray box power supply.

thanks all of you

so say i get the system up and running

is there any way i can understand/detect whether or not im having issues (like said "bad voltages" are being delivered to my gpu/cpu ) ?

my apologies if my question is naive but i need a bit of clarification on this 🙁

Well, when the system is idling, it's probably fine, it's when the system is under load and the CPU and GPU are pulling a lot of power that you are going to need to watch out...

A hardware monitoring program like AIDA64 should give you readings of your various voltages (12V, 5V, 3V) although I'm not sure where these are being read... From somewhere on the motherboard I assume? I don't know very much about power supply voltage rails.

well thats a bit of info to start with
upvote for you man =D

will wait on somebody else's reply to my uh...detection issue

okay
so point is .. i will get some kind of warning/indication if something does happen right ?it wont like go kaboom all of a sudden ?
as long as the pc doesnt suddenly break down all of a sudden one day, i can move forward i guess

no, it will happen what i mentioned

psu can't tell mainboard that there is no more watts to deliver and mainboard will not friendly tell you to buy another via a windows notification

since it is not a bad psu, we are not expecting it to burst into flames and fill your room with smoke, no, but keep in mind that is a big gpu the one you are getting and consumes a considerable ammount of watts and the psu you have is on the limit of the requirements in terms of wats used by cpu/ mainboard and the gpu

what exactly do you mean by "graphical artifacting" ?

and im aiming for well above 60+ fps for a long time (atleast 4-5 years ) on high-very high settings which is why im aiming for the 1070
and i play on a 900p monitor

right right
thanks 😀

will keep your suggestions in mind

graphical artifacs are textures in game not showing correctly, or parts of the screen black, parts with weird colors, error in the image, things you know that shouldn't be there, text unreadable, things like that

then what should i go for if i want a solid 60 fps on 900p v.high -ultra settings for the next 3-4 years ? im tired of upgrading repeatedly , want some peace of mind 🙁

well since the rx 500 series is due mid april i'm thinking about waiting a bit to see how the 570/80 performs

also, any news on the next gen nvidia cards ? any 1160 or 2060 around the corner ? :/
just wanna buy the best possible mid range card if thats what im gonna go for

i wouldn't wait for rx 500 because even if they comes next week, it could be mostly a reference model, so lots of noise and hot operation

so wait for a better option, a msi, sapphire or asus card with less noise and better temperatures on, may? june?

wait and wait and wait

or 1060 or rx480 now or wait a long time
