Hi,

Please help!

I have just formatted a “Toshiba Satellite A30-921” using windows xp cd
Go through the loading process delete old partition and start to install a fresh copy of windows.
Copies all the files to the windows installation folders, gets to 100% and says, computer will re-boot in 15sec,,,
When the laptop reboots, it starts back at the original point for windows setup and starts loading the same files AGAIN!
And I can never get past the formatting stage..
Someone said to remove the win xp cd at the reboot stage but then I just get a black screen and every so often a message:
pxe-61 media test failure check cable
when I put xp cd back in it just starts to load the same files all over again!

I have tried changing the boot sequence but it dosn't make any difference!

Please help as I think im going mad and missing something simple!

Thanks

No i tried all that and still the same thing, boot on network is at the bottom of the list,

but what i did notice was that the hard drive boot had been disabled,
so i disabled the network boot option and enabled the HD BOOT option and windows is installing as we speak.

:)

Splendid
Windows will have basic drivers that will work at install. Its still a good idea to download and install the specific drivers for your laptop once windows is running since the drivers on the disk are going to be pretty old. The web site for your laptop should have them all.

"I have just formatted a `Toshiba Satellite A30-921`"

Hi thanks,
thats what i did and every thing went fine,,,,,

except for the sound driver

Toshiba website gave me this to install: sound-sa30-xp-510005210.zip
unzipped it and ran the setup file, installed the program and restarted windows.
but still no sound! checked in control panel and it said no sound card installed.
uninstalled it and did it through hardware setup wizzard and windows couldn't find it.
so i guided it to the only file with any thing to install "wmd" file and intalled the first file there and i installed,

Realtek AC97 audio file.

it now says that i have a sound card installed, but still no sound.
i have checked all the setting for mute and volume and all are fine

I can't find any enable/disable audio or sound card in the bios settings.

and As the title suggests im up sh*t creak without a reefer!

I would rip open the back to have a look, but it is not mine and I don't want the hassle of actually doing any real damage.

Help me here the GrOvEy SoUnDs again MaNn.
