So I have this problem where when i try to connect my headphones to my PC, the only sound that they are making is buzzing , no audio at all, the only way they work is when I plug them in to my monitor, but I want my microphone to work as well, what could be the problem ? I tried to reinstall my Windows but still same issue.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:

Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time. Include the headphones you're trying to work with.

Moved thread from Displays section to Systems section.

Are you connecting to motherboard or case?

the only way they work is when I plug them in to my monitor,
Is the cable used when the headphones are connected to your monitor a USB3 lead, or an audio lead with 3.5mm stereo jack plugs at each end?

Dive into Windows Control Panel, select Sounds, click the Playback tab and scroll up/down the list of playback devices to see which device you're using to playback audio.

My current audio playback device is shown as Dell UP3017, i.e. my Dell monitor, connected to my PC with USB (for audio on the monitor's speakers) and HDMI (for video).

Audio from my PC is sent to the monitor as digital data via USB, where it is converted into audio by a DAC codec in the monitor and fed to an amplifier driving the speakers.

To get my headphones working when plugged into the computer, I'd have to change the Playback device under Sounds to Headphones.

Make sure Windows is set to use the appropriate output.

On the playback section it shows my monitor only

What is the make and model of the pc's case; are there 2 separate jacks, 1 for headphone and 1 for microphone or is there just 1 jack for both headphone and microphone combined? If there's only 1 jack you may need an adapter.
There are 2 jacks for mic and headphones i even bought and adapter to try but its the same
