Hello everyone,

I am new to PC building and this is my first rig. I recently came into an issue with my computer, it seemed that the problem was that the MOBO would have a faulty ethernet port and therefore led to me not having an internet connection. The computer would recognize the ethernet cable but I would have no internet. I checked the drivers, checked the ethernet cable on my PS4 and it was fine, tried updating, turned it on and off in Device Manager, reset my home network, reset the network via the Windows 10 feature, and still nothing. I then said screw it and did a fresh install of windows and the problem seemed to be resolved, in a few days it was the same. So I looked up the board, ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming (No Wifi), and saw it had some issues with the onboard ethernet hardware so I decided to return it.

I then got a MSI MPG B550 Gaming Carbon Wifi. I installed the motherboard, did a clean install of Windows and everything was smooth sailing, until a few days ago the same thing happened. So at this point I'm either thinking I'm somehow corrupting Windows 10 to not read the ethernet connection or there is some sort of hardware issue with another component in the computer. One thing I do notice that happens when this takes over, is that the windows spotlight screen will do a double load. Like it will load once and look normal, but then the second screen shows a "No Internet connection" icon. I install all of the drivers, for all of the components, and everything I can think of. Maybe you guys can help me out with this issue.

Parts List Below:
MSI MPG B550 GAM CARB ATX WF
SEASONIC FOCUS 650W 80+G SM ATX
SAMSUNG E 1TB 970EVO NVME M.2 SSD
G.SKILL 16GB 2X8 D4 3200 TRIZ RGB
ARCTIC 120MM FDB PWM CASE FAN (2)
SAPPHIRE PULSE RX5600XT 6GB
AMD AMD RYZEN 7 3700X WRAITHP
COOLMAST MASTERBOX NR600 MT TG ATX

Thanks in advance!

Not likely a software issue unless you are loading somethings strange. Some of the so called free vpn things mess up a computer pretty bad. Any form of QoS or network accelerator also cause massive numbers of strange errors.

You have done far more than most people by replacing a motherboard and reloading the os multiple times.

I would try a new ethernet cable. Cables go bad and work on some machine but not others. Be sure to avoid fake cables. The cable needs to be cat5e or better but most important it must be pure copper (no CCA) and have wire size 22-24 ( no flat or thin cables).

After that try to disable IPv6 support in your network settings. You can also try putting in a static ip address and gateway...

IPCONFIG /ALL when it tells you it is broken may give you a clue as to what is not working. There is a huge difference between ethernet disconencted status and it not getting a IP address from the router.

Got my first cable from Microcenter, and just got another from Monoprice. I just plugged in the new Monoprice one into the rig. Also, forgot to add this, the wifi also stops working. So no ethernet or wifi internet access. For now the rig is working, due to a new Windows install, for some reason it always works with a fresh install, so I'll just have to wait and see if it craps out again. As of now I took a screenshot of the ipconfig /all to have and compare when and if it craps out again.

The problem seems to be resolved for now. The new Monoprice cable seems to be working fine. I did have a list of removed programs after I did a repair to Windows. There were two programs that raised a red flag after reading bill001g's comment . One was cFosSpeed which was downloaded with one of my PC components, and the other being my work VPN. I am assuming that one of these if not both were causing an issue with my internet connectivity. I am leaning more so towards my work VPN because it was also a program that was present on the old motherboard. Thanks for helping me out!
