At this time I'm in the early stages of building my first PC. With that said, as you can imagine, I could use some advice.

I'm hoping to build a budget gaming PC ($600-$700) that can handle running games like Shogun Total War 2 and Diablo 3 at near max settings (or better) with a smooth frame rate. In addtion it'll become my main PC where I'll do everything you could think of on it except for rendering or editing videos/programs.

Since this is primarily a gaming PC I invested more into the video card, purchased an HIS Radeon HD 7770, and bought a cheaper processor. The processor I bought (for $80) is an AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition.

Is this a powerful enough processor for my needs? Or should I pony up and invest in a better processor?

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to read this and if you have any suggestions on anything regarding my plan please let me know. Like I said, I'm new to this.

Why not just try it and see how you do?

If the X4 does not do the job for you, there is no AMD upgrade chip that is any better, and you are looking at an intel replacement.

I think you will be good.
