Folding@Home is a LARGE GRID COMPUTING effort. Presently over 1,000,000 computers and over 400,000 people have contributed. Present speed is approximately 200 Teraflops.
Completely nonprofit and totally for humanities benefit. Join the team, it's kind of fun. :-D.

__Us-><A HREF="http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_overtake.php?s=&t=40051" target="_new">http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_overtake.php?s=&t=40051</A>

Seems other people/sites can claim they have great community spirit.

"priyajeet" started a team to do protein folding for humanities benefit and to have this community recognized. We're team 40051 at <A HREF="http://folding.stanford.edu" target="_new">http://folding.stanford.edu</A> and we could use a little of your help.

<b>Project Rank: 368</b> (we were 400 at Last Report).

We are team 368 of 35,000 and are going a ways yet.
.
The influx of new team members has added significantly to our production levels. This month we will undoubtedly exceed the total of all previous production combined. This is due to the addition of many new dedicated folder, like you.

At "wusy"'s suggestion we are raising our sights and aiming for a team that overtook us last month (and that's why we're recruiting in lots of Forums):<A HREF="http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=40785" target="_new">FRM</A>. We have no rivals left behind us so the only opponents are those ahead of us.

Team "FRM" is outdoing us by about 400 points/per day. That's about four computers but we need to pass them so a few more people woud be good. They are 75,000 points ahead of us. If you didn't know, that's a quite a few points. Time to try and gear up.

We've reached a new one day high of 9,859 points.

<b>Members: changed +2, Total: 60 </b> Welcome "Stiffler" and "Raz Dakam".
This week has seen a whole pile of new members!!! Seven in total. Welcome gentlemen, welcome all.

<b> !!! YEAH TEAM !!! </b>

<b>Contest:</b>
We have a few Gmail accounts to give away to new joiners if you contribute to the folding effort.
Apparently these are being auctioned on EBAY now, .. what some people will do for a $1.
Anyway, send me or "wusy" a private message after you reach 100 Points
The contest can be deemed a success. I have given away 3 Gmails to date!!!

<b>Off To The <A HREF="http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_list.php?s=&t=40051" target="_new"> RACES </A></b>

Apparently "blackphoenix" and "PhuckFace" have a challenge going on. But right now it seems "blackphoenix" owns the other guy. PF has finally joined in with a fairly big fold of 241 points and is on the map. We have promises of more to come but a 900 point lead may be hard to overcome. And "Stephan" is also combating "blackphonenix77" right now. Joined up about the same time and with about the same average. We'll have to see where this battle goes.

"error_911" looks like he's but the challenge from "Carey" out of the way for now but he better not slack off.

"Sparky853" and "me are slugging it out. "me" put in some big numbers this week but wonder if he can keep it up. Only a few hundred points seperate these two rivals.

"Xponchox","vader1982" and "fishman" have definitely formed a chase group. Remarkably close averages and pretty close in the points. This is one to watch for the long run.

Lots of developing action and steady points comming in. In this race you don't have to be first to be a winner.

<b> !!! Hunt Them Down !!! </b>

<b>Kudos</b> Seems a bunch of people have hit milestones:

sjonnie_______60k points .. racing ahead
xnilf_________20k points .. trying hard
me_________10k points .. got there with enthusiasm
Jammydodger__10k points .. persistance pays
apesoccer____1k points .. swinging down out of the trees
Rick__________1k points .. ringing up the totals
blackphonenix__1k points .. rising above the challenge
Stefan________1k points .. running hard

<b>LOG - All Their Base Belong To Us !!!</b>

"HXXXL-Coyote" may as well howl at the moon, we're leaving him all alone. We've blitzed "Bulgaria".. they need to stick to soccer. "Nepal" must have its head in the clouds. "Redbulls" got run and "SnapFish" got ate.

It always amazes me when we pass these high school teams. Hello there "Greanland High School Eeast Institute". Glad to have made your aquaintance and keep up the good works.

<b> !!! GO TEAM GO !!! </b>

New "Folders" and old needed; come join us we're <b>Team 40051</b> @ <A HREF="http://folding.stanford.edu" target="_new">http://folding.stanford.edu</A>

I am having problems with one of my folding rigs. My daughter, who uses that system has been comlaining for a while, but I thought it was the viruses she seems to pick up on a regular basis. In other words, F@H will not cause problems, but if you have them, it will bring them to light. Use it to make sure thier systems are as solid as you/they think.

Well my dad uses a laptop and so does my sister, since they are both doing very important work stuff I dont really do anything to comprimise the systems...Looks like I am gonna have to find a graphics card for my old P2 450.

well install the console version instead of a gui version.
That works as well without the problems associated with the GUI. Configuring is a little harder..and u don't see the pretty molecules.

<b>And look out, because once I get the ScannerPC fully operational, I'm firing up that bad boy (400MHz Cel 32MB SD-RAM) and coming for you. MMMUUUHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA</b>

P.S. I think a little healthy competition does the whole team some good.

Sjonnie has broken the 5000 barrier as someone noted. That's great stuff considering there are 416,639 donators. Not quite in the top 1% but almost there.

Sjonnie < 2 percent
Xnilf ,Chipdeath < 5 percent.
SidVicious,RareTech < 6 percent.
me, sparky853 < 7 percent.

Lots of people < 10 percent
Huh,priyajeet,Jammydodger,Folken, Silentchinook,snkbit,skaarj

and more moving up.

You are in Orangeville eh. I used to live in Port Credit, before I moved to the Wet Coast (no, there is no s, it's just wet here) A couple of my brothers used to li
ve southwest, and southeast of you. One was in Hillsborough, I forget the name of the town where the other lived.
The last 2 times I was actually in Orangeville was for thier funerals.
If you are going to bring another system on line, I guess I will have to also. Which should it be s754, or s939 3200?

install the console version instead of a gui version.

The console version is far superior to the GUI version IMHO, especially with increased verbosity in the logs.

Here is my method for an install and forget method of running the F@H console. It requires that you have a copy of the program FireDaemon or some other program that will let you run an application as a service.

1. Log in with administrator priviliges and install FireDaemon
2. Get hold of the console version of F@H
3. Create a folder for it put the console program in there
4. From a shortcut or command line run the console as FAH502-Console.exe -local -configonly
5. Go through the config script and enter username, teamnumber (40051) and stuff
6. When config finishes run FireDaemon
7. Create a new service in FireDaemon to run FAH502-Console.exe
8. Make sure you enter the -local -service flags and set the service to start automatically.
9. Click install and the folding service will start :)

You can check the service is running by looking for the FAHcore in taskmanager.

There are several reasons for runnig it this way: 1. install and forget, you need never think about it again; 2. it's a hidden system process, so cannot be mistakenly closed or terminated by a user, in fact, you can specify that the service is restarted should it ever be closed; 3. should run as long as the computer is on, no matter who is logged in or indeed even if no one is logged in maximizing your folding output! Hooray!

If you download the Console installer (<A HREF="http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/release/FAH502-Console.exe" target="_new">direct Link</A>), then it gives the option of installing as a service. You don't need anything like FireDaemon.

This is how I've got it installed on a few PCs here at work...

Hey!
According to current Stats, we're going to make FRM at last! - 107 days -- keep it up, folks!!
So they should be seeing a new "Threat" behind them! Let's hope that does make them nervous and they OC their machines and they won't fold properly anymore!! ;-)
Cheers, Stefan

You'll need to reboot the PCs once to get it to start running as a Service. Apart from that it's visible only in task manager, but then it's just one of a pile of running processes... This is how I've had it installed on 5 pcs at work, and no-one's noticed yet... 4 P4 2.8 machines (1 scotty, 3NW), and a Dual 866Mhz Xeon Server (but only set to use 1 CPU..)

My personal PCs (work & home) I have the GUI running, as you can monitor progress more easily.

Hey chipDeath thanks for that, but how do you monitor it in this mode other than wait for a result to show up? Is there a way to access the current data?

Thanks

Welcome on board, BTW!

There might be a 'proper' way of checking results, but all I do is look in the FAHLog.txt file in whichever directory F@H is running in. (Which is also the only way AFAIK to discreetly check the status on another machine, over a network, which I try to do now and then)
