Yeah, no kidding. Just when it slips out of sight onto page 2 or 3, someone comes along and resurrects it.
But while its here, lets debunk the FUD. :)

Fair enough...let the FUD debunking continue. :)
 
I actually don't have anything to contribute to this thread. Just wanted to get in on the horror. Actually, I will defend consoles in that you don't have to deal with bugs and compatibility issues like on a PC. But again, its pretty much for people that don't understand PCs.

Yeah, I actually own an xbox360 and though I don't play games on it as much as my PC, I still love some console only games like Dead Rising and Gears of War. Having to use your warranty or if its been more than a year, buying a new console is actually less bothersome to most tech newbs. And for those of us with the knowledge of this "bricking", we make sure to keep out consoles in well ventilated, cool areas and to take breaks every hour or so to let the system cool off.
 
I saw this thread scrolling so I clicked it, it wasn't until after the first couple of posts that I looked at the dates and realized how old this thread is, holy sh*t it's almost as bad as the one with that little old lady that wanted to play WOW with her son.

I hate Sony, I will never buy another Sony product as long as I'm still breathing so I might be viewed as somewhat biased against them. The truth is that any difference between PS3 and 360 are negligable the victor will be decided by the games just as the original Xbox was better than the PS2 but the latter had better games available.

I only use consoles for sports games, a console provides a more social environment for that type of game for everything else the PC is better. That said I refuse to spend $600 to play Madden and I wouldn't be suprised to see the PS3 go the way of Atari Jaguar and Neo-Geo, It's just too much money for something so limited.

I thought when the PS3 was released in Europe that MS should have released a 360 with the HD-DVD drive built in and give a $100 rebate on the player to those that already own a 360. Doing something like that would have totally defeated Sony's marketing machine and most likely would have ensured MS's victory in this latest war.

This is a relatively silly argument as both have theie own uses. Gamers will always try to make a point about which is better but at the end of the day it all come down to what you want to do with it.

its not like i can just go and install firefox on an xbox or ps2 (no idea bout xbox360 or ps3)
i cant use that funky wii controller to type in this message or use toms forums
while consoles do have interet connections they are used mostly by proprietry software that is only of use to gamers and console enthusiasts
that said i do enjoy pullin out the good old Nintendo Entertainment System i have from childhood days for a little relaxin
dont rant about which is faster as at the end of the day it doesnt matter its what you do with it that counts
would you buy a xbox if ya wanted do internet browsing file sharing video editing run virtual machines and whatever else geeks do - probably not
thanks to the enthusiast community we have versions of linux that will run on xbox but using a pc is so much simpler

The Europeans gave PS3 the best launch of any console ever, wasn't it the Europeans that made Jerry Lewis a god and David Hasselhoff a music star. I don't feel that we should take our cues from a land that is populated with women that don't shave and men who still wear speedos.

Are we "cheap" because we are not stupid?

First of all Europe is not a country like the USA, it's a continent, therefore it has a lot of countries with different cultures, so u can't judge everyone based on someone's opinion. Secondly David Hasselhoff is a music star only in Germany, and he was the producer of one of USA's most successfull tv shows so if u want to criticize anyone it should be your own taste not everyone elses'. Women that don't shave? hmmm well don't know where u got that idea, maybe u're still stuck in the time where no one took a bath and all used perfume to cover up for the smell.
U have one hundred years of history and we have centuries. Your best and most successfull minds were imported from Europe and Asia. U only proved how dumb u are with the statement u made. Stick to what is being discussed or remain ignorant your choice.

BTW, no console will ever beat a PC, the possibilities are infinite for upgrading and the only way the console keep up the pace is by launching another one, and another.... and another...

Sony made the ulitimate blunder by waiting so long to release ps3. This allowed 360 to establish a foothold with gamers and software developers. Sony should have respected the importance of being first on the scene.
 
They didn't wait, they just did a kind of industrial espionage... if I remember correctly the PS3 original contents weren't the ones that they have now, for example the Sixaxis has some of the Wii's functionalities... that whole "Home" concept is just an imitation of Microsoft's Live experience... Sony is no longer a leader but instead it became the follower. Tbh the only thing that could tip the scale towards Sony side were the amount of videogames available, and it seems those exclusives they so much bragged about aren't going to be exclusives anymore. Ultimately, the game developers will launch their hard work on all of the platforms and the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC will have the same oportunity to shine... the DX10 games will be huge when they hit the shelves, and to spend 600$ in a console that will soon become obsolute rather than invest in a top notch computer is just pure nonsense. For me the purpose of a console is just to hang with friends and play multiplayer games on hot seat where u can just plug in and have fun in the simplest of ways, do not compare the potential of a PC against PS3 because it's just plain ridiculous.
 
Yeah I grabbed a wii just for the multiplayer experience - it's great fun with friends while drunk.

Oh yeah and you can surf forumz with the wii - opera powers a browser for it. 😛 It sucks though, in order to type anything a keyboard appears on the screen and you have to point at the keys with the wiimote.
 
if you realy think that the ps3 or any gaming system is better then the pc you are not very technical minded you cant even start to compare lets say my pc to ps3 i have a xfx geforce 8800 gtx 768 meg video card 2gig of ddr2 800mhz of ram amd athlon 5000+ dule core cpu 200gig sata hard drive dvd rom dvd burner creative audigy 4 sound card lcd 19inc moniter my video card alone cost $1000 australian $ that video card alone is moore then the ps3 lol wake up sorry about my speeling is a bit of
i dont mean to sound mean but i just cant beleve you think that the ps3 is better then a high end pc.
 
i pc can also do a lot of other stuff that PS3 might not...and also upgradability is NILL in PS3 or any other gaming console

You can change the hard drive (WOW!)

Also consoles CAN be modded... it's just a royal pain in the ass to do so. (Google XBOX/360 mods).

Having said that though...

There's nothing quite like changing the cooler on your loud GPU/CPU and revelling in the new-found silence. There's something you can't easily do with consoles. And you can upgrade the RAM. I've always believed that consoles never have enough RAM.
