I would personally like to second the smacking idea. A ps3 for $500 - $600 or kick in an extra $300 - $400 and you get a quality gaming pc plus...Free porn for life!

lmao.. Plus its so much easier to do all the controls on the PC mouse > joystick, cept driving fly exce... People buy consoles cause its easy, and u don't have do be PC smart, u can just be a noob and buy games, and play them... Wait till 360 can play with vista.. PC people will PWN utterly...

I just keep seeing it on the scrolling forumz bar and remember it form last year lol.

Anyways Wii > PS3 any day. Wii has the element of pure fun..... getting sidetracked here.

At least the PS3 has some half way decent looking games and the last time I checked it was plenty of fun to play.
Like what?

Only the Xbox360 has a few decent titles; both the Wii and PS3 are lacking in the game department. When it comes to consoles, graphics aren't all that important to me, as none can compare with an 8800GTX. I use my Wii as a party system when I get a few people together. I'd never play any console alone in my spare time.

yep, i agree. If you have a PC for gaming... a wii is a good compliment for having people over or family.

Isn't the PS3 and Xbox360 graphics already behind PCs??? This thread should die.

Looking at the folding results PS3 pawns all. In under a week it blew all PCs out of the water. Granted you got some Pentium 100 mhzs dragging down the PC average but the Cell is up there with the Intel quad cores when the software is right.

Guys please i have not declared the war against PCs but i really do think that next-gen video game consoles are a better choice for gaming. Also i have to say that the original x-box is equipped with a pathetic geforce 2 but the graphics it can produce are still decently good.Tell me if there is any pc with a geforce 2 today and even if there was any the results would be disappointing. Many have written in your replies that the cpu plays no role in gaming performance.Ok if this is true i can equip my ancient 486 dx2-66 with a geforce 7800gtx 512mb and have amazing performance.ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.I still insist that ps3 is many times better than any pc that exists today but i agree that PCs will eventually keep up with PS3 in the future.I would also like to note that it is absolutely ridiculous to spend 3000 euros for a pc just to play games decently for 6 months until NVIDIA releases its next super chip and intel her next pentium processor.

They used to think the Earth was flat too. Consoles are for those with limited configuration abilities, and they should not be spoken about in the same breath as a PC.
PC gamers have been playing in High Def for years, consoles just got here, and with older hardware than we have today in PC's. Your comment about upgrading is ridiculous.......no one MAKES you upgrade, you just think you need to to keep up, you don't. In 5 months your PS 3 will still be a PS 3, if you need an upgrade you can't have it, if a PC needs one no problem.
If consoles are so all of that then why haven't the massively multiplayer games been ported over to consoles and taken over ? Because they aren't all of that....any dork can put a disk in a drive, then grab a controller and play. To get immersed in a game it's gotta be a PC.
Half-Life 2 or a racing SIM, not game....SIM on a console, nope, only GAMES on a console.
Keep your consoles, they're great for mental midgets.

With all due respect prozac but i totally disagree. The PS3 is vastly superior than any pc system today in every aspect.Perhaps you are not familiar with the hardware that ps3 incorporates.Has any pc-system today cpu with 7 cores?NO but ps3 has.The pc will need at least 2 years to compare with ps3 hardware. The pc is not a gaming machine we must all reealize that the pc architecture is not game-oriented like video consoles are.

Just think of it this way... the Nvidia 8800 series of cards didn't exist when the PS3 was finalized... so whatever it is has is inferior to that video subsystem... and do you really think that the 8900 series is going to be slower? For $600 no one is questioning the power of the PS3... it's just not a match for a top-end PC in 2007... and it'll only get worse in 2008, 2009, etc. as we upgrade to newer and newer cards and that PS3 is grinding through a 5 year life cycle.

Couldn't find his post so I copied yours... so this isn't a reply to you lol.

You make me sad with your ignorance.

Oh snap!~ That's what Sony should have been putting in their ad campaign. Maybe that would have rescued their dismal sales figures!

"PS3: It Folds Better that a Wii or 360"

I actually don't have anything to contribute to this thread. Just wanted to get in on the horror. Actually, I will defend consoles in that you don't have to deal with bugs and compatibility issues like on a PC. But again, its pretty much for people that don't understand PCs.

Resistance fall of man is a great game and is out now. I will admit that there are not a lot of titles yet available for the PS3 but what I am really refferring to are PS3 exclusives such as final fantasy 13 Killzone 3 and Metal Gear.

The PS3 is going to have some really nice exclusive titles that you will likely never see on the PC.

When it comes to consoles, graphics aren't all that important to me, as none can compare with an 8800GTX. I use my Wii as a party system when I get a few people together. I'd never play any console alone in my spare time.

Practically every game I want to play for the 360 is either available for the PC or will be in the near future so there is no sense in me owning a 360. If you own a high end gaming rig like you and I then the console of choice should be either the wii or the ps3 since both have plenty of titles that you cannot and will not ever get on the pc.

Now as far as the wii and ps3 are concerned like I said before give me a ps3 any day of the week. Its not so much the graphics that bother me its just the fact that The wii is way to kiddie for me and I am not paying an extra premium for a controller that you can swing around while gaming :roll:While it's great you can name titles that aren't even out(a version of Metal Gear is supposed to come to the Wii), Sony is losing exclusives daily. I'm not interested in Final Fantasy, and Killzone one sucked enough. I heard the same garbage about the Gamecube being a "kiddie system", but then when titles like Resident Evil 4 came out as Gamecube exclusives, I didn't hear a peep.

Say what? Thats the biggest load of crockpot cooking I heard all day.

Can the PS3 do normal PC functions w/o voiding warranty? No. Can the PS3 do normal PC functions besides games? No.

Can the PS3 proving a better gaming experience then the PC? Yes/No.

My computer running the same game (oblivion) can download mods, patches, updates, upgrades, and I can create content. PS3? Nope cant do it (except possible download mods at a price).

My computer will eventually run user created graphics updates to Oblivion (such as there are for Morrowind), and as time progresses, run the game (all my games) better. PS3? nope.

Uhh... are you familiar with the term "bricking"

http://www.digg.com/gaming_news/Numerous_Reports_November_30_Xbox_360_Update_Is_Bricking_Consoles

We are all techs here.

When I get a new console: I bit copy it to another drive, buy better cooling systems, run the console on a monster power strip with line conditioning, never hook it up to the internet. Use it only 1 hour per day....

Though the last time I purchased a console was the Super Nintendo.

Oh ye of little reading...

First, most Ars readers are aware that, as a general rule, the TFLOPS metric is a pretty poor way to judge performance. Different instruction set architectures (ISAs) will render the same calculation using different numbers of floating-point operations, sometimes skewing the results significantly when you compare TFLOPS ratings across ISAs. So the TFLOPS ratings given by F@H are fun, but the project itself acknowledges that there are major problems with this metric. In fact, the F@H group's initial numbers for the PS3's TFLOPS rating were wrong, and were revised downward by 50% last night.

Here's a simple analogy to illustrate the logic behind the rankings. The GRE exam has three sections: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing. Let's say that three different students took the exam, and they were then ranked relative to each other based on the average of their three scores.

Because student G is a mathematical genius and an autistic savant who can't do anything but math, he was asked to take only the quantitative exam—an exam that he's insanely good at. So his GRE average reflects his performance on that single exam. Student P excels at both math and vocabulary, so took he took only the quantitative and the verbal reasoning exams. Thus P's GRE average reflects the average of only these two exams. Student C is good at vocabulary, average at math, and a solid writer. He took all three exams, and all three scores contributed to his GRE average.

If we were to rank the average scores of all three students, student G would outclass the other two by a wide margin, student P would come in second place, and student C would be stuck at a far, far distant third place. This is because G (the GPU in the analogy) took only the test that he was insanely good at, P (the PS3) took the two tests at which he excelled, and C (the general-purpose CPU) had to take all three tests.

Ultimately, the TFLOPS/CPU rankings given above align pretty much exactly with the degree of specialization of each type of processor. The GPU is far and away the most specialized of the three, so it sits comfortably atop the rankings. The PS3 has a lower degree of specialization than the GPU, but a significantly higher degree than the general-purpose CPU. Indeed, you could almost use each processor's TFLOPS/CPU score as a sort of "degree of hardware specialization" rating.

The final thing that's worth noting is that the pool of CPUs that make up the "Windows" portion of the client list varies widely, from older Pentium 4 models to brand new Core 2 Duos and everything in between. The GPUs are much more uniform in terms of hardware types (all ATI), and the PS3 is the most uniform of them all. So the PS3-to-PC comparison isn't just apples-to-oranges. It's more like apples-to-citrus.

Just because the PS3 "pwns" in F@H doesn't make it superior to PC's.
