hmm...i was afraid that might be the case. I most likely will stay away from OCing since this is my first build. If it makes any difference, I plan to do a lot of video editing/rendering up to 1080 and 4K.
I only have 2 more questions:
-can you guys recommend a good tier 2/3 600-850W PSU for under $80? note: im in the US
-can you guys tell me anything about the antec truepower quattro 850W?

The EVGA B2 750w Bronze is what you're looking for.

The Antec True Power Quattro 850w was a decent unit. Not top notch, but certainly not bad.

Ok, I knew I wasn't loosing it, I remember seeing that link before, somewhere, but I'm thinking someone said something to the affect that the 450, 550, 650 were basic redesigns to DC/DC but maybe the 750 & 850 are just basically repaints of the older units with a few cap changes. Ugh, this habit of re-using designations is getting to be almost as bad as the Tt TR2. Pita....

Anyone heard of KK oem? Seen this name in a crappy cheap power supply i opened today. It is 8 years old, but can still power my backup 775 system. Capacitors are Asiax. No line filtering. Funny thing is the unit is properly grounded.

What about refurbished units?
I came across a couple of Antec truepowers (TP-650 and 750) on ebay refurbished by the same seller.
650W: http://goo.gl/91vun6
750W: http://goo.gl/ROu0AH

worth the risk? seller has all positive reviews going back a year

I'm rolling my eyes at "seller refurbished" because I'm all the seller did was wipe it down and dust it off. Still, $33 is a lot for a 8 year old psu no matter how good it was.

Where does he say its not very good?

t's not bad at all, in fact it's very good for what it is... it's just not that competitive at this point in time.

Doesnt sound like he think its bad, just not price competitive.

wow...wasn't aware they were that old. (only just got into this)
I guess the EVGA 750B model is my best bet...is there much difference in the B1 and B2 models?

Be really careful about ebay. So many shady sources.
I only use it for something I absolutely cannot get elsewhere, from a real retailer.

CWT really had an off day on this one, didn't they? The whole point for soldering comes off today, for some dreadful work to a level I don't usually see from them. Another point comes off for that big flake of whatever the heck it was on the PCB. Another point for sleeve bearings in the fan. Half a point comes off for second tier capacitors. Finally, half a point for the damaged wires.

Anytime I see something like that ^^^ in a review, I'm going to make the assumption, for myself, that the unit isn't very great. I don't need him to come right out and say it, especially when we know who the boss works for. I wouldn't expect them to bash a Corsair product beyond what was already said in that review, no matter who did the review. That comes close enough to saying "this unit isn't great" for me. Especially when the final score was a 7.1.

And then add this in, and that's the end of what I need to see.

But... this unit shut down in the hot box, dropping all outputs to zero. That means an automatic slide into the mediocre scoring bracket, which is a full two point deduction, the most deduction possible for load regulation issues under my current methodology. Sorry, Corsair, but I really need your power supplies to finish the hot box testing if you want them to do well.

If you don't think that adds up to a poor, or at least questionable unit, I don't know what you think does aside from it actually catching on fire or exploding.

PSUs generally gain maybe 10% per 10C drop due to de-rating. Deliberately under-rating the temperature is tantamount to falsifying the output.

IIRC the ATX spec requires a certain temperature level; I don't have time to look it up. If that's the case, it's non-compliant.

I was looking on Amazon today, and they sell the Sentey XPP725-HS Xplus 725w Power Supply
I haven't seen it anywhere else, it has a 4.4/5 overall rating with 620+ reviews at 76% 5 star, 12% 4 star
https://www.amazon.com/Sentey-XPP725-HS-Computer-Desktop-Bearing/dp/B00SN6VN7W/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

with that kind of feedback and that low of a price, I gotta know, who made the core, and what tier would it fall under?
here's a video review of that helps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KS_lVvlfi8o

They seem to think it's made by SinYang over at JG and probably a 550 watt PSU at best. His recommendation is to avoid.
