I already mentioned exceptions such as fan bearings. Maube that Nvidia GPU would last 8 days instead of 7 on a better PSU.

Let me change my wording. The PSU is not always the primary cause of death but it is always a factor, whether it be a big or small factor depends on the exact scenario.

You mean like their new GTX 1000 series cards? LOL

Thats a pretty large change...:heink:
But whatever.

Nowhere have I worn a path quite like the one from sticking my foot in my mouth. I am glad to see that I am not alone. Turkey, the next time a doctor looks at the back of your throat, he's going to find your own boot prints back there.
You made a silly remark; time to own up to it instead of making it worse. It significantly reduces the credibility of the argument that bad PSUs, specifically, can and do kill attached parts, by diluting it to the point of irrelevance.
In some of his teardowns of PSU-shaped objects, Gabriel Torres in particular has cited specific reasons why certain parts would fail (e.g. because they were overrated and/or not heatsinked), and what the failure could do to the outputs. I believe OW has done the same; didn't he have to get an expensive piece of test equipment repaired after a Diablotek PSU-shaped object killed it? The test unit died violently under a way less than 100% load; I'd have to search for it, but I'm not sure it was even 60% of the label.

seeingeyegod, you've been lucky, maybe in part because you've also been careful. You might want to read some of the HardwareSecrets and Jonnyguru reviews.

I don't understand, of course PSUs can fail. I was the one saying the PSUs kill hardware, not the other way around. I think you might have this flip flopped.

I know exactly what you mean, but I had a big smile when I read this comment - "Recommended for those on a fairly limited budget." - about the tier my PSU is in (Enermax Platimax 1350W). I bought mine for a Crossfire gaming PC at a shop closing down sale for A$140 about 1 year ago and they are still for sale in shops around Australia from around A$669. It'll basically power anything with relatively good consumption figures and I have already saved over A$500 to put towards any extra it adds to the power bills. So I definitely ended up with pretty good value on a fairly limited budget

IMO crappy power supplies is potentially the main issue when some components fail, mainly motherboard, RAM and GPU. Another issue for motherboard failing could be the capacitors and power delivery circuit, these are related to power........

The power supply doesn't kill components unless something is wrong with the unit itself. It's a matter of fact that using the component and what type of environment it's in that slowly poisons the part. Just decreases the longevity of the part or component.... Theres nothing else to say really.

I have an interesting question.
I'm about to build a system with i5 6600K + Zotac GTX 1070 Amp Extreme.
I'm between Evga G2 650W and Corsair RM650x. I know Corsair is slightly more expensive and they are basically equal on efficiency. But I'm big on acoustics. Corsair is the more silent one between the 2 and it provides 10 years warranty in my region compared to Evga's 7 years. The price difference is like 5-6 USD.
I'd be better with Corsair. Right?

Thanks for the quick responses.

I won't be doing OC right away but it's in my plans. If I try to OC 6600K 4+ GHz like after 1 year's passed, will be 550W still enough?

550w is more than enough. Here are 3 great 550w psus from $59-68 http://pcpartpicker.com/products/compare/9q4NnQ,DPCwrH,3pqdnQ/

The other day, the Corsair RM650x was actually cheaper than the RM550x

I'll buy 2 parts of my system from Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.de. Zotac GTX 1070 Amp Extreme and the psu. Here are the overall prices including taxes and shipment in my own currency;
RM550x; 2210 bucks from co.uk / (Amazon.de doesn't ship Corsair psus to my country)
RM650x; 2225 bucks from co.uk /
G2 550; 2180 bucks from co.uk / 2180 bucks from de
G2 650; (co.uk doesn't ship 650W version, don't know why) / 2230 bucks from de

Edit: That 30-45 buck difference won't matter much to me TBH. I can afford it and it wouldn't be a problem for me.

The competition from the bigger companies has finally led us to very good PSUs. My only question is if this will be seen across all the PSUs in this line and of this model or if they sent a golden cherry to them for reviewing like does happen sometimes.

Either way the competition has been fierce. From Corsair dropping price and bringing game to Super Flower giving Seasonic a run form the quality crown.

so is the seasonic S12II 520w Bronze 80+
a tier 2 PSU?

Is it good for my budget gaming pc?

I hope to see more competition in the budget range. High end has a ton of competition right now. I think Corsair's new CXM and Vengeance units are making other companies scramble to get better stuff out, hopefully.

True but the best thing about high end competition is it helps trickle down to the low end. I paid $160 for a Corsair TX850w (first gen) which was a great PSU and one of the best of the time but it was only Bronze rated. Now we can get a HX850i for the same price that is Platinum rated or a higher watt Gold rated PSU.

Eventually the low end will be silver rated with the uber cheap being bronze.

Of course we still need more Titanium rated units. I did call that rating name back when Platinum came out but I wonder what's next. Uranium rated PSU?
