It was probably just his "turbo" going so fast he couldn't make sense of the things around him. :)

For a split second though, I thought the next response back to you WAS serious though, and I was going to set them straight that you were joking, but quickly realized they too were joking.

If you draw over 8 Amps from each +12V rail the ripple on both the +3.3V and +5V rails will exceed the 50mV limit allowed by the ATX12V specification.

There is a thread i am in and op in pakistan trying to find a good psu.. he found that one i linked in my post and i was unaware of its tier rating. The most i found in his country was a tier 3 rm corsair... wtf...
Well, i guess the one he found is bad..

According to Guru3D, that unit was the Holy Grail back in 2007. Now, probably not so much although they make no mention of the 3 and 5v rails overloading and indicate that the unit is good from A-Z.

Anandtech says:

The Galaxy 1000W comes with five 12V rails rated at 24A. As the label suggests, two of these rails have their own output and are separate from the other three rails. The total combined power of all the 12V rails is 900W. The 30A for the 3.3 and 5V rails is a nice addition but not much needed anymore.

HardOCP says:

The Enermax Galaxy DXX PSU performed very well in all of our strenuous testing conditions. While the Galaxy DXX is not the power supply for everyone, if someone is looking for a power supply that will do exactly what it is labeled to do while supporting "next generation" video cards, or large disk arrays under demanding circumstances with ease, the Enermax Galaxy DXX is certainly worthy of their consideration. Enermax has truly delivered a product that can bridge the gap between the enthusiast and professional realms with ease. Hardcore gamers and hardcore enthusiasts make sure the Galaxy DXX is on your short list when shopping for monster power.

So I don't know as all those conflict with what ko888 has indicated as being a weakness. Barring his statement I'd have said it was very good for the time period but probably not a great choice versus some other available units these days. Five 12v rails, heh.

thanx I found him an rm corsair 750w tier 3 in Pakistan.... best I could do.....cant win them all.. especially in Pakistan. ahahaha

Well, I think I'd trust Jonny's findings over those who were doing reviews for the other sites at that particular time any day of the week, so as he said, take them all with a grain of salt. The RM is probably a much better choice anyhow, and I find that hard to say.

I NOO rite...

don't worry, my reply was 100% ridiculous. however, the format ("your bad psu is junk, this xx watt 80+ bad/worse psu is better for <$50") is real. 'seen it in multiple er.. gamer forums.

On a lighter note, I just bit the bullet, kicked the cow and smacked the bull on the..... nose. I'm now a soon to be proud owner of the new Evga 550w G2. Think I'll tell the Mrs about that tomorrow... or Mebe next week, sometime anyways...

It's too bad EVGA decided not to offer a 10yr warranty with the less powerful G2 models.

Yeah, it's 7 I think, but it's the only brand new part in my new pc. I don't mess with used psus.
Fractal Design r5 window $30
I7-3770k $180
Samsung 840 Pro 120Gb $30
Asus 970 STRIX $240
Msi mpower z77 $45
Evga G2 550w $80
Kraken x61 $69
Everything either new/open box or less than 2 months usage.
I'm happy

Usually easier to ask forgiveness then to ask permission :lol:

Well it was sorta on topic, $94 after taxes, before rebate is a lil dear for a 550w psu. I was going to get another Seasonic M12-II, but since Seasonic has switched from semi to full modular on that unit, I've been reading more than a few testimonials about doa or bad pins etc. There any truth to that that anyone has heard?

There ARE no off-toppings. If they were OFF, they wouldn't be toppings, they'd just be, stuff.

If you think THAT was off topic, you'd never be able to follow a discussion in the moderator forums. They look more like this:

AND, if the current discourse is in a thread monitored by or including a moderator, you can be sure that one of use will bring the thread back to where it belongs if we feel it's deviated too much. That what we, um, do.
