Purchasing Custom i5 build

I am about to purchase a gaming computer from a friend in pristine condition and need some advice on a few things. My overall goal is to play new games like Battlefield 3 on Ultra High settings with zero lag, keep in mind I'm planning on using a single monitor setup with a 1920x1080 resolution and I don't plan on doing any multi-monitor setups.

I need help picking out a monitor, I decided I wanted to go with something around 23":

At that price.. it looks really good! If you trust him on the condition of the computer then go for it. But do you live near any Fry's electronics or Microcenter?

Microcenter usually let you get a deal with compatible motherboards when you purchase a high end CPU. If you buy his exact parts today.. it will cost you around $1200 so the price you're buying for assuming seems profitable on your end; the components he uses are pretty high end and won't depreciate fast.

Unfortunately the closest Fry's is in Austin which is about an hour from where I live. Also, the closest microcenter is about 3.5 hours aways so I'm really unfortunate, I hope they open one in San Antonio sometime.
