I have a Qosmio x505 q888 laptop computer. I got it with the standard 500 gb hard drive but there is room for two.

It's been about a year so I wanted to get a SSD for the secondary compartment in my laptop. I ordered and recieved a Solid State Drive and after opening up my laptop to install it there appears to be no protective sleave for the SSD to fit into. This would make the SSD unstable in the computer and shift around making it not an option without the Sleave.

How would I get this sleave? I very much need it. I contacted Toshiba but they have been very unhelpful.

Does anyone know how to get one of these protective sleaves?

thanks!

Many laptops have a "caddy" that is used to mount the hard drive that will fill up that extra space. You might try the vendor you got the laptop from or eBay.
Laptop hdd's are 2.5 form factor and that's what a SSD is so the SSD should just slide in there and most likely there is no extra space for it to flop around in. Plus it has to plug into the connection so they won't make it for there to be any extra room.

I tried to put it in and there appears to be about 1cm of space or so around the SSD. Also it there is room above and below it so if i weret to move the laptop it will shift slightly which is a big problem.

Yeah, that's way too much money for a simple piece of stamped sheet metal but unfortunately, that's at the upper end of the going rates. You can look up the OEM replacement part number and search for it on Google in hopes of finding a better price.

It's sad to see how high laptop manufacturers set the catalog prices for cheap little parts like this that literally cost just pennies to manufacture. Tooling costs contribute a little bit to the problem but that can be reduced simply by not reinventing the damn caddy every time a new model is introduced or by having manufacturers agree on a standard for components like this (as if that would happen).
