I've got 3 machines right now, one with Vista Business 32bit, one with Vista Business 64bit, and one with the Win7 RC 64bit. The only computer I will be installing Win 7 on when it releases is the one that already has the RC and I'll be sticking with 64bit.

I have three machines with 64 bit Vista, one with 32 bit Vista, one with XP PRO, and my media center machine has Windows 7 RC on it. All my machines will be Windows 7 64 bit by next year.

[citation][nom]megamanx00[/nom]64-bit. Honestly they shouldn't even have a 32-bit option.[/citation]
^_^ On the desktop I would agree fully with you. It's not necessary on netbooks and laptops really, yet.

I've a laptop with 4gb ram, T9550 cpu and 9600gt video card. Currently Win7 32bit and ubuntu 64 bit are my operating systems. I have faced almost no problem with ubuntu 64bit; however I cannot say the same for win 64bit. Many programs caused incompatibility problems and I coulndt even run my browser natively (flash isn't 64bit yet).

Currently 32bit windows is enough for me (multimedia programs, games, utilities etc doesn't need more than 3gb). I really don't see any point in me getting into 64bit windows.

Didn't pick up 8Gb of RAM for my Q9650 gaming rig for nothing, even though I am running 32bit XP now I plan on dual booting with 64 bit 7 later on with a second HD. Maybe sooner than later if find out a new game I want performs better under the new 7-64 than XP-32. I don't think 7-64 can run some of my old legacy games (dual boot reasoning) I still love, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and Freespace to name a few but if for some reason it can run them all I will remove the XP and the second HD drive and may use them to build some cheap micro setup with it for my neighbour's little kid, here Merry Christmas, 🙂

Zhy do you need more than 3 gigabites of ram ?? Does all of u have secret ram disk??

I have 2 gig of ram, windows 7, a 255 MB ramdisk for firefox, and I run any software or games. I don't get why you need so much ram...
Is it like the 1200watt PSU that are useless but "cool" ??

64bit Windows 7 RC is what I have been running for about 3 months now, which allowed me to upgrade my memory from 4GB to 8GB. This is my first time using 64bit OS, and so far I have not come across a situation where my 64bit OS has prevented me from using any of the software I use. With all the compatibility modes and Virtual PC mode that offer so much backwards compatibility, I feel confident that should I ever come across an ancient piece of software (that I probably shouldn't be using anymore to begin with), I will be able to find a way to instal and run it within my 64bit Windows 7.

I notice some people dogging 12GB of memory, or other high capacities that to most seem extremly high and wastful. I personaly use 8GB, because the difference in cost of 6GB and 8GB was so little. I already see my memory usage go above 6GB during gaming. And I am sure SOME people get to use their 12GB of memory, although most don't. But the reason 32bit OS doesnt cut it anymore is not because so many people need 12GB of memory, but its because so many need and actually use significantly more than 3.3GB of memory!

I find it funny that people have 8, 12, 16 GB of ram in their system. Maybe I just don't understand because I mostly use my PC for gaming, but I can't think of very many non-game programs that will eat more then a GB or 2 of memory (maybe multi tasking video encoding with some photo editors and such, but even then, that's a stretch imo. There is a great article on this site that showed no real gaming performance increase over 3GB of ram (they tested 3, 4, and 6GB of ram from what I remember). I currently use 6GB of ram (2x 2gb in my i7 set up). And the future proofing thing don't fly either, because by the time there is something that would need more then 3GB of ram, you're going to be building your next PC anywho lol.

128-bit actually --- oh....wrong decade :) 64-bit of course! Just like 99% of you out there, I won't really NEED a 64-bit system, but why shouldn't I go with it? I already have 4GB memory, I own a 64bit compatible processor, and this talk about non-compatibility problems associated with the 64bit universe is just so outdated.

[citation][nom]yonef[/nom]64 but of course.[/citation]

well i know i have made as many of the games i own as i could large address aware... nw i realize most cant do this because they dont know how to program and edit their software properly.... but due to this i have seen a huge difference in gaming, and new games will see this in the future... so the article you read meant right at this moment, and the article did address making games large address if you how...guess you didnt read between the lines.... also when i game i have music, movies and such going on multiple monitors, chat programs, voice chat, and some others.... so people stop trying to dodge progress and rationalize it with denial, you really sound stupid to proffessional techs like myself that truly understand the intimate intricasies of hardware and software....and remember, THE WORLD ISNT FLAT ANYMORE, change the way you think....but for humans, change is the hardest part of life

64, the only issues I've had with 64 bit OS's is dealing with64 bit video codecs, but for me that's a very minor issue. That aside, I can't imagine not giving yourself the option of at least putting in more ram. Not only that, but given how easy it is to use a 64bit version of windows now, I can't see why anyone with any real level of competence with computers wouldn't want to adopt "early" (and when I say early, I mean relatively early) to increase development for the platform. Issues with work I can see, but for any other user, I don't see it being much of a plan.
